A Pitt Bull dog is the one who finally bit the two-year-old girl, who was attacked during a family trip to the falls of Foini, on Sunday morning.
The dog was examined twice by a veterinary officer and according to information from Filenews, it was found to be a Pitt Bull and not an American Staffordshire, as it was registered in the Veterinary Services register. As it turned out, the dog belongs to a banned breed. However, during his examination, no aggressive tendencies were identified and according to the competent services, the euthanasia process will not proceed.
After this development, the procedures provided for by the legislation are activated, such as placing it under strict guard, as well as the imposition of measures by the local competent authority, such as the use of a muzzle and the restriction of the movement of the dog. As for the 24-year-old woman, who was in charge of the dog at the time of the incident, after the opinion of the Veterinary Services that the animal belongs to a prohibited breed (Pitt Bull), she is expected to be charged with the offense of possessing a prohibited dog. The same information on our website states that the dog is registered with another person, who is also expected to be charged with the same offense.
It is recalled that the 24-year-old was released at noon on Monday (1/9), after being accused in writing. He is expected to be summoned before the Court, as he is also facing the offence of negligent and reckless acts, under Article 236 of the Criminal Code, as well as for an unsupervised dog, under Article 18(3) of the Dogs Law.
Intervention of the Amstaff Club on the occasion of the girl's injury
The Amstaff Club issued a statement, regretting the incident and wishing the child a speedy recovery. The Group emphasizes that a dog without official purebred certificates from a recognized canine club cannot be considered Amstaff, despite the external similarities. "It is wrong to arbitrarily label any dog as Amstaff," the statement said. At the same time, it is clarified that the Amstaff should not be confused with the Pit Bulls, as they are different breeds with distinct patterns and characteristics. "Every dog's behaviour is shaped by the upbringing, the environment and the training they receive – and not exclusively by their breed," it says. "Amstaff is a balanced, sociable and dedicated dog when raised properly."
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday (31/8), when the Police received information about a dog attack on a minor. Police officers who rushed to the scene found that the two-year-old girl had been bitten in the lower limbs. He was initially transferred to the Limassol General Hospital and then to the Makarios Hospital in Nicosia. Doctors found multiple injuries to the legs, which required suturing, while the child remains hospitalized, receiving antibiotic treatment. His health condition is considered stable and out of danger, according to the attending physicians.

The move of a Paphos businessman to leave a very large amount of money in his car all night in order to deposit it in the bank the next morning proved to be disastrous. A total of €65,000 in cash turned into smoke, after the car was broken into the same night and the perpetrators took the money before they were noticed.
The incident happened on Monday evening, when, according to the Police's investigations, the 59-year-old businessman who operates in the restaurant industry parked his vehicle outside his house, in the city of Paphos, leaving a bag with a sum of €65,000 inside the luggage compartment of the car, which he intended to deposit the next day in the bank.
However, when the 59-year-old went to his car the next morning, he found that the rear window was shattered and the vehicle violated, with its valuable contents having made wings. The businessman immediately resorted to the Police reporting the case and the Paphos Police Department began investigations to identify the perpetrators.

In a new development in the case of the 5 Greek Cypriots illegally detained in the occupied areas, the "police" in occupied Trikomos "arrested" their lawyer.
According to a report by the online "Özgür Gazete Kıbrıs", the "police" of Trikomo proceeded to the "arrest" of lawyer Murat Metin Hakki, as part of the investigation into the case of the five.
The publication states that Mr. Hakki was the lawyer who handled the cases of the five Greek Cypriots regarding information concerning their properties in the occupied territories.
It is recalled that the five Greek Cypriots, who were "arrested" on July 19, face charges of "illegal entry into property" and "causing public nuisance". At the same time, they are also accused of "violation of the law on the protection of personal data", a case for which the relevant file has not yet been prepared.
Update - Cy Mail - The military court case regarding the alleged illegal entry into the north of five Greek Cypriots who were arrested near Trikomo in July was on Wednesday adjourned for a week due to the continued ill health of one of the defendants.
The 68-year-old man had been taken to hospital at the end of Tuesday’s hearing, and his lawyer Ugur Culhaoglu told the court on Wednesday he remained unfit to attend.
According to newspaper Ozgur Gazete’s editor-in-chief Pinar Barut, who was present in court on Wednesday, the man had received an electrocardiogram and an x-ray of his lungs on Tuesday night, but “no treatment”.
She added that it was clearly “visible” in court that he was ill, and that he arrived “bent double” due to other health issues, having reported pain in his back and waist.
As such, Culhaoglu requested from the court that his client be examined.
The man then told the court through an interpreter that he has “severe pain in his waist and back”, that he “cannot move” and is “paralysed” by the pain, and that he has not slept for four days.
The prosecution did not object to the case’s adjournment, with the judge ordering that he receive treatment for the symptoms mentioned in court at a hospital.
Following last Friday’s hearing, Barut had said the 68-year-old man had lost “about 10 kilograms” since being arrested, while the remaining four have all lost between three and five kilograms.
Every court in the north will be closed on Thursday due to it being Mawlid, the birthday of the prophet Mohamed, while the other trial the five face, which is related to charges of privacy violations, trespassing, and breaching the peace, is set to continue at the Trikomo district court on Friday.
The next hearing of the trial at the military court will take place on September 10.
The police and the prosecution allege that when they crossed in one car from the British Dhekelia base through the Strovilia crossing point, near Famagusta, only four identity cards were handed over for inspection on the Turkish Cypriot side of the crossing point. The five Greek Cypriots deny this.
As such, one of the five Greek Cypriots has been charged with illegally entering the north, while the other four are accused of aiding and abetting the illegal entry.
