From October 3, certificates of suitability for vehicles without airbag recall are cancelled, the Ministry of Transport says in a statement, launching a new information campaign for the safety of citizens.
The Ministry of Transport announces that it has already launched an extensive public information and awareness campaign on vehicle recalls related to defective airbags, as part of its policy to enhance road safety and protect human life.
The new campaign covers the period of September 2025 and is implemented with TV and radio messages, billboards, press releases, as well as digital promotion, with the aim of providing timely and targeted information to all vehicle owners, and especially those affected by the recall.
From October 3, 2025, cancellations of certificates of suitability (MOTs) come into force for vehicles whose airbag recall has not been completed within the 8-month time limit set by the Minister's Decree.
The implementation of cancellations is a crucial preventive measure to prevent serious risks, as – according to the manufacturer's risk assessment – airbags included in the recall may, under certain circumstances, be fatally dangerous to passengers.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works invites all vehicle owners to immediately visit www.gov.cy/mtcw website and check if their vehicle is affected, so that they can schedule the replacement of the defective part in time. The recall process is free and ensures that the vehicle remains legal and safe.
Don't neglect. It's a matter of security.
