Pafos Live 9 September 2025
The President of EOA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis, expresses his optimism about the water supply of the province, estimating that there is no way with the quite encouraging data we have before us, that there will be any water cut in households and businesses.
In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Pittokopitis stated that the data regarding the issue of water in the city and province of Paphos are quite encouraging. Indicatively, he said that since last week, the second small desalination unit in Potima of 1000 cubic meters per day has been operating and strengthening the water supply, so at the moment he continued, "we take 2000 cubic meters of water per day from the two small units in Potima".
He added that it is expected that by the end of September another 5000 cubic meters of water will be available from the largest desalination plant again in Potima, where this amount will be supplemented with another 5000 cubic meters per day by the end of October, as he said.
The President of EOA Paphos noted that the desalination plant in Kouklia with a capacity of 15,000 cubic meters of water per day is expected to fully reopen before September 25.
With these data, he continued, "I state that I am quite optimistic that there is no way we will go to any water cuts to households and businesses."
He also sent the message to consumers that although the data regarding water sufficiency are very encouraging, however, the situation is critical because the quantities in the dams are at a marginal level.
Characteristically, he said that at the Asprogia - Kanavious dam there are currently around 2,5 million. cubic meters of water and in the Asprokremos dam 6.5 million. which are very low, as he mentioned.
We must, he continued, preserve and deal with the situation and the possibility that we will not have rainfall next winter, he concluded.
