B2B PLATFORM FOR THE CYPRIOT DEFENCE INDUSTRY

 Filenews 27 September 2025

To inform the local ecosystem on defence industry and defence research & innovation, the Ministry of Defence recalls the operation of the European Defence Agency's B2B platform. The platform enables companies operating in the defence sector to connect the ecosystem of EU member states, facilitating the identification of cooperation opportunities in programmes and funding initiatives, such as the European Defence Fund (EDF).

The platform is open to industries and research and technology bodies established in the EU, provided that they are not under the control of entities outside the EU, in particular in matters of copyright, supply chain, information security and export control. Those interested can register at: https://b2bplatform.eda.europa.eu.

The government is strengthening the Cypriot defence industry by utilizing the new European financial instrument SAFE, with the aim of creating jobs, attracting investment and upgrading the deterrent power of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to information, Nicosia has evaluated the data offered by SAFE and aims to develop domestic production with products such as drones, personnel transport vehicles, software and communication systems. At the same time, the program enables joint procurement with EU member states, as well as access to US military hardware.

President Nikos Christodoulides in his earlier statements stated that the package of €150 billion approved by the EU will be used in conjunction with the US decision to provide military equipment. As he said, the final decisions on armaments and infrastructure will be made in the next period, with an emphasis on the "Andreas Papandreou" and "Evangelos Florakis" bases.

At the same time, the Defense Industry Council met at the beginning of the year for the first time, with the aim of including Cypriot companies in the Republic's armament programs. Defence Minister Vassilis Palmas stressed in his own statements that domestic companies can already produce critical products, while underlining that Cyprus can contribute to the EU's overall strategy to boost defence production.

Nicosia is oriented towards synergies with foreign firms, following the model applied by other states, so that the Cypriot defense industry can participate in the production of the systems that will be acquired.
