A tragic incident was brought to light today by the Commissioner for the Protection of Children's Rights, Despo Michaelidou.
Speaking on the Alpha Good Morning show, the Commissioner disclosed that a father went to her office to leave his 6-year-old child because he was unable to take care of him.
According to Mrs. Michaelidou, the father claimed that he could not cope with his care and that the child's mother abandoned him.
Officials of the Commissioner's Office contacted the Social Welfare Services and officials spoke privately with the father and the child.
As Mrs. Michaelidou said, an agreement was made for the father to keep the child until today, in order to prepare the child psychologically. She added that there will be a meeting between the ministers and the father, while an effort will be made to meet with the mother as well.
Finally, Mrs. Michaelidou clarified that the mother is illegally residing in Cyprus, while the family is being monitored by the Social Welfare Services.
