TOURIST ARRIVALS, SPEND AND AVERAGE STAY

Tourism breaks one record after another, with May revenues having seen a sharp increase compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest data of the Statistical Service, based on the results of the Travellers' Survey, tourism revenues in May 2025 amounted to €373.3 million, showing an increase of 20.2% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (€310.5 million).

They spend the most

The same data also record the per capita expenditure of tourists by country of habitual residence, which indicate the markets that Cyprus may have to target.

We remind you that in recent years, the competent tourism bodies had said that the goal is not so much the large numbers of arrivals, but the quality and revenues from tourism.

According to the Statistical Service, the average expenditure per day for all tourists in May 2025 was €96.18, €779.08 per capita, 8.1 days the average length of stay and arrivals had reached 479,160.

Now, from the data, it seems that the most "open-minded" in May 2025 were the Israelis with €153.11 in daily expenditure and €627.74 for the duration of their holidays in Cyprus. The average length of stay was 4.1 days. Tourist arrivals from Israel for this period had reached 45,249.

In second place are the Swiss, who spent an average of €144.50 per day or €924.80 per capita for as long as their holidays in Cyprus lasted. During the same period, 7,249 Swiss had arrived in Cyprus with an average length of stay of 6.4 days.

The Dutch follow with €126.12 per day and €971.15 per capita, with a duration of stay of 7.7 days. 8,078 Dutch had arrived in Cyprus.

Who broke the record for arrivals

British tourists (the largest tourist market, with 37.4% of all tourists in May 2025) spent an average of €97.77 per day. Their per capita expenditure reached €948.39 with a duration of stay of 9.7 days. 179,150 tourists from the United Kingdom had arrived in Cyprus.

The second largest market was the Israelis (with 9.4% of all arrivals), who figure first in spending per day, after spending an average of €153.11, as we wrote above.

In third place are tourists from Poland with 36,800 arrivals in May, (the third largest market with 7.7%), who spent €90.28 per day. Their per capita expenditure was €595.84 and the average length of stay was 6.6 days.

Who spends the least

Greeks, Swedes and Poles spend the least compared to all other tourists.

According to the data, in first place for the smallest expenditure are Greeks, who spend €60.19 per day and their per capita expenditure reaches €391.21. The average length of their stay in Cyprus is 6.5 days. As of May 2025, 17,591 tourists had arrived in Cyprus.

In second place are the Swedes, with €88.79 per day. Their per capita expenditure amounts to €728.01 and their duration of stay is 8.2 days. 22,924 Swedes arrived in Cyprus during the same period. In third place are the Poles, with €90.28 in daily expenses, which, however, as we wrote above, are the third largest country in arrivals for the month.

Who stays the most days in Cyprus

The data show that the average length of stay of tourists in Cyprus is 8.1 days.

The British are in first place in terms of length of stay in Cyprus, far exceeding the average, with 9.7 days.

In second place are the Germans with 8.6 days, followed by the Americans, Austrians and Swedes with 8.2 days.

In the last places with the shortest length of stay are the Israelis with 4.1 days, the Italians with 6 days, followed by the Swiss with 6.4 days, the Greeks with 6.5 days and the Poles with 6.6 days.

It is worth mentioning that for the period January – May 2025, revenues from tourism are estimated at €955.8 million compared to €751.2 million in the corresponding period of 2024, recording an increase of 27.2%.
