Pafos Press 1 August 2025
Businessmen in the Paphos shopping center received notices today to remove objects from a public space. The notices, which were served with a two-hour ultimatum, concern flower pots, flower beds and other equipment that has been placed in a public space, mainly in front of catering establishments.
It should be noted that today's notice is a follow-up to a relevant letter from the Municipality of Paphos dated July 9, 2025, which states that various businesses in the center, including those with permits for outdoor use, are failing to comply with the terms of the permit, as well as violations of the regulations regarding sound emissions and general operation.
For their part, businessmen express their concern about the manner and the current short deadline given and emphasize that decorative elements such as flower pots contribute to the aesthetics of the space, especially in tourist areas. They argue that such interventions, unlike metal demarcations placed in other zones, and mainly on the coastal front, create more welcoming images for residents and visitors.
The previous letter from the Municipality stated, among other things, the following:
- Insufficient cleanliness of the outdoor area and identification of liquid waste.
- Placing tables and equipment beyond the approved limits.
- Using equipment such as umbrellas or refrigerators in a public place without permission.
- Sound reinforcement in outdoor areas with high-volume music without permission.
According to the Paphos Municipality, the above are considered violations of the Recreation Centers Law and municipal regulations and if there is no compliance, the Municipality will proceed with the removal or seizure of equipment.
