After a series of new contacts and requests that came before him from organized groups and local authorities in the region, the Paphos MP of AKEL, Valentinos Fakontis, sent, through the House of Representatives, a question to the competent Ministers in order to be informed about the timetables set for the promotion and completion of the project of Phase B of the Paphos Western Bypass. This is a project that is extremely delayed and concerns the section of the road from Phase A that was completed in February 2012 to the junction with Tombs of the Kings Avenue of this road.
In his letter, Mr. Fakontis emphasizes that there is a serious problem in the access of the communities of west Paphos to the city of Paphos due to the dense traffic traffic, since essentially the only access to the center of Paphos is via the road in the area "Diplakakatzia". With the completion of this project, traffic in the area will be significantly alleviated.
The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, has already responded to Mr. Fakontis, stating that the project has been included in the Budget for start within 2027 and that the Department of Public Works will promote the preparation of construction plans. We then proceed with the announcement of the project, after the final regulatory plan has been sent by the Department of Urban Planning and Housing and based on the assumed obligations and priorities of the TDE, emphasizes Mr. Vafeadis.
Taking into account the time-consuming procedures that are being followed, but also given that the process of updating the Regulatory Plan that was done earlier has not yet been completed, the AKEL Paphos MP pointed out, the government and the competent departments should move with a sense of urgency in order to complete all the necessary procedures for the promotion of the project of Phase B of the Paphos Western Bypass. as soon as possible.
