A low pressure system is affecting the Eastern Mediterranean, bringing a rise in temperatures following a brief respite from the scorchers, strong winds and overcast skies on the mountains.

Clear skies today, turning cloudy at intervals in north-eastern areas and over the highest reaches of the Troodos mountains. Winds will initially be light southwesterly to northwesterly force three, later turning light to moderate force three to four and in south-eastern areas strong force to five in the afternoon, over calm to slight seas.

Temperatures will rise to 37 degrees Celsius inland, 31 in the western and southwestern coastal regions, 33 in the rest of the coastal areas and 27 on the mountains.

Fine and sultry this evening with high humidity levels expected across most of the island. There will be low cloud in the west and north, with light variable winds force two to three, over calm to slight seas. Temperatures will drop to 22 degrees Celsius inland, 23 in coastal regions and 18 on the mountains.

The island will see a rise in temperatures through to Thursday, slightly over the seasonal average, with overcast conditions mainly on the mountains.
