INTERRUPTION OF OUTDOOR WORK AND DELIVERY SERVICES DUE TO HEATWAVE - MEASURES TO PROTECT WORKERS

 Filenews 11 August 2025

The Department of Labour Inspection announced the suspension of all outdoor heavy and moderate works, as well as the transport and delivery services of products with two-wheelers or personal mobility vehicles, from 12:00 to 16:00, due to heat wave and orange danger warning.

The decision concerns the interior of the country — areas with an altitude of less than 300 meters and a distance of more than 10 km. from the coastline — as well as the highest mountains over 1,150 meters.

For light work and areas outside the orange alarm, the Department reminds that employers and self-employed persons must measure temperature and relative humidity and adjust the work rhythm, with a change of activities, rest or interruption, in order to avoid thermal stress.

Prevention measures often include taking short breaks in shady or air-conditioned areas, providing cool drinking water (10–15°C), wearing a hat, light cotton clothing, appropriate sunglasses, and avoiding heavy meals, sugary or alcoholic/caffeinated beverages.

Examples of light work: office work, supervision, bench work with light tools, driving.
Examples of moderate work: fencing, concreting, plastering, painting, laying floors or tiles, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical work, asphalting by mechanical means.
Heavy work: manual rebar processing, assembly/disassembly of molds, digging or breaking hard materials with machines over 15 kg, asphalting by manual means.
