The Police recommends special attention to the public, in relation to e-mail fraud, where the Electricity Authority of Cyprus is falsely presented as the sender.

The Cybercrime Sub-Directorate of the Police Headquarters has received a number of complaints from citizens regarding misleading e-mails falsely appearing as coming from EAC.

Specifically, the recipient of the message is invited to follow a specific electronic link in order to make an immediate payment of his electricity bill, in order to avoid the possibility of interruption of the electricity supply service.

The purpose of the perpetrators is to deceive the public and specifically to intercept bank data and steal money.

The public is urged to be especially careful and not to respond in case of receiving such a message.
