FIVE MILE BEACH IN KYRENIA IS BEING TURNED INTO A MILITARY MUSEUM

 Filenews 28 August 2025

Five Mile Beach, where the Turkish invasion began in 1974, is to be converted into a military museum, which will be managed by the Evkaf Administration. The decision was announced by the "Minister of Public Works and Transport", Erhan Arikli, putting an end to recent discussions on the future of the region.

According to the Turkish Cypriot online media and Mr. Arikli, the "lease contract" of the beach to a private company, which lasted about 15 years, expired in 2024. The administration of Evkaf decided not to renew it and to manage the area itself.

The final decision to create a military museum was taken at the request of the commander of the Turkish military corps in the occupied areas. As the settler politician stated, the request was accepted by the Evkaf administration and received the support of the "prime minister" and government partners. The private company reportedly agreed to give away its investments free of charge, as long as the space became a museum.

Mr. Arikli also clarified issues that arose with the license to operate a pier on the beach, stating that the competent services acted within the framework of "legality".
