CRIME ROUND UP

Pafos Live 31 August 2025

Two young Greek Cypriots will face the consequences of the law after they proved to be irritable. A foreign resident of Paphos complained that while driving on the old Paphos-Limassol road, he had a verbal confrontation with the driver and passenger of another car, two 20-year-old Greek Cypriots, as it emerged later.

The two young men did not forgive the foreigner for the remark, stopped him and beat him inside his vehicle, resulting in injuries to his face.

After the complaint, the two young men were identified and a case has already been registered in the Paphos court.

A traffic accident occurred on Saturday morning at the entrance to Kissonerga, when a driver, under unknown circumstances, lost control of his vehicle. The car overturned and ended up in a field near the road. Despite the severe collision and the vehicle ending up at the Traffic Police or the Pegeia Police Station, there is no report of an accident, which may lead, possibly, to the conclusion that the driver abandoned it after the collision. The driver's health condition remains unknown, pending official announcements from the Police, which is investigating the circumstances under which the accident occurred.

According to a statement by the Police, unknown persons have targeted Cypriot students.

In particular, the Cybercrime Prosecution Branch has received a number of complaints from both educational institutions, (private universities) and citizens, that mass e-mail messages have been sent to a large number of students attending various educational institutions in Cyprus.

These messages inform them of a tuition-paying balance and refer them to specific bank accounts for payment, a practice that is not common among educational institutions (private universities).

Recipients of such messages are urged to be particularly careful, not to make any payments and to inform their educational institution accordingly.

A Cypriot and a Spaniard had in their hands the keys to the "pharmacy" of hard drugs in Mykonos, setting up a network that reached from VIP villas and luxury clubs to clients-stars of Hollywood and well-known businessmen.

Well-dressed, sociable and pleasant, they looked more like people enjoying the worldly life of Mykonos than drug traffickers. The Spaniard and the Cypriot had managed to penetrate the best hangouts of the island, carefully building a network of acquaintances with masters, PR managers and luxury villa concierges. The ease with which they moved around the VIP tables and closed parties made them go unnoticed, but in reality they were holding the keys to the "pharmacy" of hard and expensive drugs.

Both had a strong sociability and extroversion, elements that helped them build a high-end clientele. At the same time, they had organized their action in a way that resembled a well-established business scheme: one had more contact with the world, acquaintances and circulation in VIP areas, while the other took care of the storage, ordering and management of money. In this way, they were able to cover up every aspect of their illegal activity.

The clientele they had developed was impressive: Hollywood actors, foreign businessmen and members of the Greek elite were among their buyers. Pink cocaine (tusi), which reached €200 per gram, was the "pride" of their menu.

Classic cocaine cost up to €150 per gram, while ketamine ranged from around €100–120. Ecstasy and MDMA rounded out the list, ready to fuel even the wildest parties.

The investigation led to the surveillance of the two men and the raid of the Police at their residence in the Kounoupa area. There the "pharmacy" was found: hundreds of grams of cocaine, tusi, methamphetamine, ketamine and cannabis, 156 ecstasy tablets, three precision scales, order notes and almost €24,000 in cash.

The total value of the seized items exceeded 85,000 euros, revealing the size of the profits. For the Hellenic Police, the case is a crucial blow to the effort to shield Mykonos from the networks that exploit the glamour and money of secular life. We will not allow the islands to be turned into drug trafficking centers", emphasize senior officers, underlining that the operation is part of the targeted actions requested by the Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis.

What the police confiscated

  • 244.5 grams of cocaine
  • 98 grams of pink cocaine (Tusi)
  • 288.3 grams of crystalline methamphetamine
  • 13.2 grams of ketamine
  • 553.4 grams of raw cannabis
  • 156 ecstasy tablets
  • amounts of MDMA
  • Three precision scales and a notebook with handwritten order notes

At the same time, sums of money of €23,910 and 170 dollars were seized, which, according to the police, came from drug trafficking.
