The investigations of the Famagusta TAE continue with the aim of locating the person who caused a new disturbance in an open-air premises in Ayia Napa, which was evacuated yesterday (17/8) for the second time in three weeks, when an unknown person warned of the alleged existence of an explosive device. It is noted that on July 26, after a phone call from an unknown person, a defensive grenade was found in the area, resulting in the evacuation of the premises again, which was crowded with people.
The investigators of the case estimate that the same people are behind the two cases and focus on both the professional and personal environment of the owners. What is estimated is that the perpetrators want to send a specific message to the owners, but also to influence the activity of the premises.

Early yesterday afternoon, an unknown man had called a television station in Nicosia and warned, as last time, that there was an explosive device in the area. The area was immediately evacuated and extensive searches were carried out on the spot by members of the Famagusta ADE and pyrotechnicians, without detecting anything.
At noon on Saturday, July 26, the Famagusta Police had been put on red alert, after an unknown person had called the Ayia Napa Police Station, as well as a television station in Nicosia, stating that there were explosive devices both in this particular premises and in other places in the Ayia Napa area. Immediately after the first phone call, the police protocol was implemented, which concerns explosives and suspicious objects. Members of the Police, with detection dogs, had rushed to the premises and located a defensive grenade, from which the ring had not been removed.

The 23-year-old from Bulgaria allegedly stabbed an 18-year-old Greek Cypriot in the abdomen in a restaurant in Paralimni that belongs to the latter's father.
According to information from Filenews, the 23-year-old, who lives permanently in the area, again engaged the Police for thefts and burglaries and had even been released from prison on August 12, four days before the murder attempt. It is for this reason that the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia, through a statement, expressed concern, calling on "the state to fully assume its responsibilities for the safety of both citizens and visitors".
It is noted that the assassination attempt was committed in front of the eyes of patrons of the restaurant at 8:15 on Saturday evening. Members of the Police rushed to the scene and found that the 18-year-old had been attacked as a result of which he was seriously injured, while the perpetrator fled.
The 18-year-old was initially transferred to the Famagusta General Hospital, where it was found that he had a serious injury to the body, caused by a sharp object. He was then transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital, where he is hospitalized, with his health condition out of danger, according to the attending physicians.
The 23-year-old alleged perpetrator was spotted half an hour later walking around in his underwear in an area in Paralimni. Initially, he was arrested for the flagrant offenses of causing concern, public nuisance and disturbing the peace, since when he was approached by police officers he started shouting. He was subsequently linked to the attempted murder and was arrested for this offense as well. Yesterday he was brought before the Famagusta District Court, which ordered his detention for a period of 8 days. The Famagusta TAE continues the examinations in order to clarify why the alleged perpetrator attacked the 18-year-old.
Expressing its concern, the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia spoke of an isolated incident, indicating, however, that it constitutes an insult to the image of the tourist area internationally. "Of particular concern is the fact that people with a burdened, as it seems, history of delinquent behaviors are circulating, causing unhindered disruption in the life of our society and manifesting acts of violence," it notes in a statement, "calling on the state to fully assume its responsibilities for the safety of both citizens and visitors, applying the current legislation with all strictness."
The Municipality also expressed its gratitude to the Famagusta Police Department "for the immediate intervention to locate and arrest the perpetrator".
