The Police are investigating a case of attempted murder, committed last night, in the district of Famagusta, with an 18-year-old victim. As part of the investigation of the case, a 23-year-old man was arrested, with the Famagusta TAE continuing the examinations. 

According to the data under investigation, around 8.15 on Saturday evening, information was received about an injured person, in an area in Paralimni. Members of the Police rushed for examinations in the area, where it was found that an 18-year-old had been attacked as a result of which he was seriously injured, while the perpetrator fled. 

The 18-year-old was initially transferred to the Famagusta General Hospital, where it was found that he had a serious injury to the body, which was caused by a sharp object. He was transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital, where he is hospitalized, with his health condition out of danger, according to the attending physicians. 

During the police examinations, evidence emerged against the 23-year-old. He was spotted by a Police patrol around 8.45 p.m., in an area in Paralimni and was arrested for the flagrant offenses of causing concern, public nuisance, and disturbing the peace, since when he was approached by the members of the Police, he began shouting in a way that caused annoyance. 

For the purposes of investigating the attempted murder case, a court arrest warrant was issued against the 23-year-old, pursuant to which he was rearrested by the members of the Police and detained.

Two fires broke out today, Sunday, August 17, in the communities of Kato Platres and Pano Platres, as informed by the Department of Forests. 

The first fire, in Kato Platres, broke out at 12:50 a.m. and was brought under full control at 1:10 a.m., after burning a small area with wild vegetation. 4 people from the Forestry Department participated in the extinguishing operation with 2 fire trucks. The causes of the fire are being investigated. 

The second fire, in Pano Platres, broke out at 7:30 in the area of Psilo Dentro. Thanks to the immediate response of the fire brigade, it was brought under full control at 7:35, before being expanded. 3 people from the Forestry Department participated in the extinguishing operation with 1 fire truck. The fire was caused by burning souvla coals dumped on the riverbank.

A 37-year-old woman was handcuffed by the Police for a case of burglary of a house and theft of electrical appliances in Larnaca.

Members of the Police proceeded to the arrest of a 37-year-old woman, yesterday afternoon Saturday (16/08), pursuant to a court warrant, as part of an investigation into a case of burglary of a house and theft.

According to the data under investigation, the burglary was committed in November 2024, at a residence in Larnaca. Electrical appliances were stolen from the residence.

The 37-year-old was interrogated and after being accused in writing, she was released later yesterday, to be summoned before a court for a trial of the case.

The case is being investigated by the Larnaca TAE.

Following a post made today on social media regarding the inappropriate behavior of a member of the 112 Emergency Service, the Police ordered an administrative investigation against this person.

The case concerned a phone call to 112 by a citizen yesterday Friday about a fire in the Paphos district.

A police announcement states, in particular, that after the publication today about the inappropriate response of the member of the Emergency Service to a call by a citizen on the day of August 15 to report a fire in an area of the Paphos district, the Deputy Chief of Police, Panicos Stavrou, gave instructions for conducting an administrative investigation to locate the member of the Police who responded to the call in question, with the aim of investigating the incident and taking further actions.

The Fire Brigade and the Police were put on alert, after a fire in an apartment where hotel employees live.

According to a police announcement, around 9:20 a.m. today, a fire broke out in an apartment complex, in the Protaras area, where employees of a hotel in the area are staying.

Examinations at the scene by the Fire Service and the Police showed arson.

Unknown persons attacked and broke the vehicle and mobile camera equipment, while the employee was inside the car.

According to the Police, they are investigating a case of malicious damage to a vehicle, as well as to equipment of the photolabeling system, following a relevant complaint submitted last night, by an employee of the company, which manages the mobile photolabeling cameras.

According to the data under investigation, around 11:00 on Saturday evening, while the complainant was inside the vehicle, which was parked in an area in Lakatamia, for a traffic check, unknown persons hit the back of the vehicle with an object, resulting in damage to the vehicle, as well as to the photolabeling system.

Police officers carried out examinations in the area, with the Nicosia TAE investigating the case.
