YELLOW WEATHER WARNING CONTINUES

The Cyprus Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for extreme maximum temperature, effective from 12:00 to 17:00 today, Thursday.

According to the announcement, the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 40 degrees Celsius in areas of the interior and around 33 degrees Celsius in the higher mountains.

The forecast in detail

Seasonal low pressure and warm gas mass affect the area.

Today, after the dissolution of the locally increased low cloudiness or fog, the weather will become mainly clear. The winds will blow southwest to northwest and in the morning locally southeast to southwest, initially weak and progressively to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, however in the afternoon on the southwest coast they will blow locally up to strong, 5 Beaufort. The sea will be up to a little rough. The temperature will rise to around 40 degrees inland, around 35 degrees on the southeast and east coasts, around 34 degrees on the north coast and around 33 degrees on the rest of the coast as well as in the higher mountains.

Tonight the weather will be mainly clear, but from time to time locally increased low clouds will be observed, mainly on the west and north coasts. Later and during the morning hours, it is not excluded that locally sparse fog will form, mainly in the east and in areas of the interior. The winds will blow from the southwest to the northwest, weak and initially to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and later locally variable, weak, 3 Beaufort. The sea will gradually become calm to a little turbulent, however in the west it will remain a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 22 degrees in the interior, on the west and north coasts, around 24 degrees on the rest of the coast and around 20 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the weather will continue to be mainly clear.

The temperature on Friday will drop slightly, remaining at about the same levels until Sunday, to fluctuate slightly above the average climatic values.
