THE IDENTIFICATION OF ALL PREPAID MOBILE CARDS IS MANDATORY

Filenews 17 July 2025

The identification of all prepaid mobile phone cards becomes mandatory, with a deadline of November 10, 2025, in accordance with the provisions of Law 63(I)/2024 on the identification of SIM or eSIM card holders or users. The regulation aims to enhance security and ensure the uninterrupted provision of telecommunications services, informs the Office of the Commissioner for Communications (GEREET).

The identification process is free of charge and no number or SIM card change is required. It is reminded that cards that have not been used recently but remain active must be identified, otherwise they will be deactivated.

After November 10, 2025, all unidentified cards will be automatically deactivated, unusable for calls, messages, or data.

The obligation of identification concerns:

  • Individuals who use the card for personal use. Registration is done by adults only. For minors, identification must be done by an adult.
  • Businesses and organizations that install cards in elevators, alarms, automatic machines, GPS trackers, IoT devices, etc.

Available ways of identification:

  • In the retail stores of mobile phone providers
  • Electronically, through the providers' official websites

The public is invited to proceed with the identification in a timely manner to ensure the continuation of their service, whether it is for personal use or for critical corporate or home applications.

For more information, consumers can contact their mobile operator.
