The Cybercrime Sub-Directorate warns https://www.philenews.com/tag/astinomia/ about the ongoing form of phishing fraud, which takes advantage of the tax return submission period.
Specifically, scammers send mass SMS messages or emails, in which they falsely pretend to come from the Tax Department.
The message states that, after an alleged tax audit, the recipient is entitled to a tax refund of €328.81, and invites him to confirm his details via an electronic link.
This link leads to a misleading and fake website. The purpose of the website is to intercept personal and banking data of citizens.
This fraud is particularly targeted at the current period, when hundreds of thousands of citizens are filing tax returns in order to make it more convincing.

The Police remind the public:
-No tax or government authority sends messages asking for the confirmation of bank details through links.
-Do not fill in information on websites that are not the official ones of state organizations.
-In case you receive a similar message, ignore it and delete it immediately.
-If you have already entered your details, contact your bank and the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate immediately.
Protection Instructions
-Always check the sender's email address and links before clicking.
-Use two-factor security for your online accounts.
-Never share personal or banking information via email or unknown websites.
-Be informed only by official state sources.
-In case any banking data was provided to the perpetrators during such a fraud, the public should IMMEDIATELY inform their Banking institution to avoid unwanted use of their data and available cash balances.
