More than a hundred Syrian asylum applications have been rejected because they did not meet the criteria of international and European law, sources at the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection said on Friday.
According to the same sources, on the instructions of the Deputy Minister of Migration Nicolas Ioannidis, asylum applications for Syrians have recently begun to be examined, as the situation in Syria has been changing in recent months.
As they said, more than a hundred asylum applications submitted by Syrians have been rejected, as they did not meet the criteria of international and European law.
At the same time, they added, the departures of Syrians from Cyprus, who are returning to their homeland, continue at an unabated pace, in cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Migration with the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Cyprus Police.
They also note that Cyprus was the first EU country to suspend the examination of asylum applications for Syrians in April 2024 and in May 2025 it was also the first country to start rejecting applications from Syrians.
The government and the Deputy Ministry of Migration continue to implement a strict migration policy, they concluded.
