EAC REBUILDS THE ELECTRICITY NETWORK IN THE RUBBLE - MANY KILOMETERS OF BURNT CABLES

Filenews 27 July 2025

The mechanism of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus is in full mobilization, in order to replace as soon as possible the almost 500 piles and 60 transformers that have been burned by the fire in mountainous Limassol and to install new cables of many kilometers.

Materials from the EAC warehouses have already been transported to the affected areas and the replacement of the damaged equipment is in full progress, so that electricity can be restored to all villages in the region as soon as possible.

According to EAC spokesperson, Christina Papadopoulou, about 150 EAC technicians are working on the burned areas and the work will continue in the coming days, despite the many difficulties that arise due to the destruction of stakes and cables in very inaccessible areas.

EAC has already transferred mobile generators to villages without electricity in order to electrify at least the community cores and water pumps, for a smooth water supply to the residents.

According to the EAC website, there are still electricity problems in 18 villages in the affected area.

The Minister of Energy, Giorgos Papanastasiou, expressed to Filenews his appreciation for the immediate and effective response of EAC to the difficult situations caused and for the hard effort of its people to restore electricity as soon as possible, in very difficult and dangerous conditions. They are in frequent communication with the coordination center and the president of the EAC and arrangements have been made for the delivery of food and water, as well as an ambulance in case of emergency, due to the very high temperatures they use.
