The Police arrested a 46-year-old man yesterday, in order to facilitate the investigations regarding an investigated case of robbery, extortion and causing actual bodily harm, committed in the early hours of July 1, 2025, in the district of Famagusta.

The case was reported to the Police, by a 23-year-old and a 20-year-old, according to whom, while they were in a nightclub, an employee of the premises asked them to leave, under the pretext of damage allegedly caused to the toilets of the center.

On their way out of the nightclub, unknown persons were waiting for them, who allegedly attacked and beat them, while allegedly extorting sums of money from them.

The two complainants visited the Famagusta General Hospital, where they were found to have bruises and abrasions on their faces. After receiving first aid, they were discharged.

From the Police examinations, testimony was obtained against the 46-year-old, who was arrested yesterday, pursuant to a court warrant

. This morning he was brought before the Famagusta District Court, which issued a two-day detention order against him.

The Famagusta TAE is investigating the case.

Yesterday, the arrest of two people at the British Bases on the Limassol-Paphos road was episodic.

According to an announcement, late last night, the SBA Police proceeded to arrest two persons on the old Limassol – Paphos road, as suspects for the offenses of poaching, dangerous driving as well as other serious traffic violations.

As reported, the two arrested did not comply with the instructions of the Police.

Certain members of the British Bases signalled to the suspects' vehicle to stop, due to traffic violations.

The suspects, in order to avoid the control of the Police, developed dizzying speed, resulting in their vehicle colliding with a Police patrol car.

A case of trafficking in persons for the purpose of sexual exploitation is being investigated by the Police, in the context of which two persons were arrested.

After evaluating and investigating information received at the Anti-Trafficking Bureau, the Police proceeded last Friday 04/07/2025 to the arrest of a 39-year-old, and yesterday to the arrest of a 26-year-old, for the purposes of police examinations.

The 39-year-old appeared on Friday before a Court which issued a seven-day detention order against him, while the 26-year-old appeared yesterday in Court which ordered his five-day detention.

Offences relating to conspiracy to commit a felony, kidnapping and threats are being investigated against the two persons, while from the evidence that emerged during the investigation, a 23-year-old woman was identified as a victim of human trafficking, for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

The case was investigated by the Anti-Trafficking Bureau.

As part of the ongoing actions of the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN) to identify drugs and illegal preparations available for sale, a search was carried out yesterday at a premises in the Larnaca district.

During the investigation carried out, a total of 80 packages/products, which are indicated, containing the substance cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which are classified according to the legislation, as controlled Class B drugs, were found and confiscated.

The products were confiscated and examinations are continuing by the Larnaca Unit of the Ministry of Health.

On 2/7/2025, officials of the Customs Department in cooperation with members of the relevant Ministry, in the context of the joint actions to prevent the importation of drugs into Cyprus, proceeded to a random control of intra-community sea cargo originating in Greece at the premises of a transport company in Limassol. During the physical control of the packages selected for testing, no drugs were detected.

However, during the inspection of the packages of the grouped cargo, the following goods were identified and detained for further inspection:

  • 20 large electronic scales, 10 gasoline-powered generators and 30 electric fans (all of Chinese origin) without the required CE markings. They were detained for inspection by the competent services.
  • 5 boxes for 3 different recipient companies containing more than 900 children's toys, which at first glance violated the U.S.
  • 2,250 pieces of lighters of a well-known brand, which at first glance violated the I.D.I. – They were withheld for confirmation of authenticity
  • 1 box which contained undeclared mobile phones and telephone accessories of a well-known brand, which at first glance violated the I.D.I.

On 2/7/2025officers of the Customs Department at Larnaca Airport, after evaluating information, selected for inspection the luggage of three Greek Cypriots, aged 45, 33 and 29 respectively, who would travel from Larnaca to Manchester in the United Kingdom.

During the physical control of the passengers' luggage, large quantities of tobacco products were found and confiscated, which did not bear the marking for the harmfulness of smoking in Greek and Turkish, nor the security feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free. Specifically, 63 boxes of 200 cigarettes each and 35 packs of 20 cigarettes each were found in the luggage of the first passenger, 63 boxes of 200 cigarettes each and 40 packs of 20 cigarettes each were found in the luggage of the second passenger, while the luggage of the third passenger was found 51 boxes of 200 cigarettes each, 121 packets of 20 cigarettes each and 1.8 kg of roll-your-cigarette tobacco (in 36 packs of 50g each). The 3 passengers were arrested for flagrant offenses, while they were later released, after their proposals for an out-of-court settlement of the cases with the payment of €3,990, €4,000 and €4,410 respectively were accepted.

On 3/7/2025, officials of the Customs Department at the Agios Dometios Crossing Point selected for inspection a Turkish Cypriot vehicle-taxi driven by a Turkish Cypriot with a 75-year-old Israeli passenger, who was also carrying a travel luggage. During the baggage check, 99 boxes of 200 cigarettes each, which did not bear the marking for the harmfulness of smoking in Greek and Turkish, nor the security feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free. The Israeli was arrested for flagrant offenses and taken to a detention center for further interrogation. The next day he was presented to the Nicosia District Court, which issued a decree for his 3-day detention. Later in the afternoon he was released, after his proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the case with the payment of €3,500 euros was accepted.

On 6/7/2025, members of the Police Force conducted a search at the home of a 52-year-old Bulgarian man in Limassol, where they found a small amount of drugs. During the search of the suspect's home, 87 boxes of 200 cigarettes were found each, which did not bear the marking for the harmfulness of smoking in Greek and Turkish, nor the security feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Limassol Police Directorate from where officers of the Customs Department were notified, who went to the area and after counting the cigarettes proceeded to confiscate them. Later, the case was reached out of court with the acceptance of an offer to pay an amount of €6,000 by the suspect.

An attack by two people on members of the Police caused concern in Ayia Napa at around 04:00 this morning.

Specifically, the Police were conducting a pedestrian patrol on Agias Mavris Street, when they noticed two persons causing concern.

While the members of the Police approached these persons for recommendations in relation to their behaviour, they attacked the members of the Police, resulting in them being arrested for flagrant offenses.

During their arrest, a member of the Police was injured in the arm and specifically suffered a finger fracture in the hand.

The case is expected to be registered today before the Famagusta District Court.

The condition of the victim of the attempted murder on Saturday night in the Amargeti area remains serious. The 41-year-old is hospitalized for a second day in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital and according to the doctors, vital organs have been affected that make his condition particularly serious.

The alleged perpetrator of the attempt, who has been under eight-day detention since yesterday by decision of the Paphos District Court, continues to deny any connection with the incident, claiming that at that time he was in a wedding ceremony in Paphos. The Police are investigating the validity of this allegation and for this purpose they began to take testimonies.

The cause of the incident, according to the ongoing investigations of the Police, was a loose structure, which the alleged perpetrator placed on a plot of land belonging to the 41-year-old and adjacent to a plot of land belonging to the 55-year-old.

The Police have testimonies from the area, that a few hours before the shooting, the two involved had a heated argument about moving the premises in question, to be followed a few hours later by the episode between them, which ended in an attempted murder.

We remind you that the 41-year-old was found injured late on Saturday night on the side of the Eledio-Amargeti road, a citizen who alerted the Police. Members of the Paphos Police Department rushed to the scene and found that the injured man had a wound to the right abdomen that seems to have been caused by a shotgun. He was conscious when the police arrived at the scene, to whom he reported that he was shot, naming as the perpetrator the 55-year-old who maintains a residence near his own.

The 41-year-old was transferred to Paphos Hospital where he underwent surgery and was detained for hospitalization, with his health condition being characterized as critical. For this reason, he was then transferred and is now hospitalized at the Nicosia General Hospital.

The victim of the attempt is a resident of Limassol and maintains a cottage in the area where the incident took place.

The repeated incidents of beatings and violent behaviours in the crowded tourist resort of Ayia Napa are causing concern, a fact that demonstrates the need to take measures. The alarm is also sounded by the fact that in most of the incidents groups of young people are involved, including minors, who in two cases savagely beat tourists. In two cases, in fact, the two victims, a 23-year-old from Nepal and a 17-year-old from Hungary, were critically injured, with the former having suffered a cerebral haemorrhage.

The three most serious cases of violence were recorded in just three days (from 1 to 3 July). In the latter, in fact, an attempted murder is being investigated by the Famagusta TAE, with a 23-year-old victim from Nepal. A 17-year-old Greek Cypriot is in custody for the case, while another person is being sought, whose details remain unknown. The Police made public yesterday the very serious case that took place on July 3 on a street in Ayia Napa. The alleged perpetrator and the victim seem to have argued in the street, with the former punching him, resulting in the 23-year-old falling to the ground and hitting his head. The young man was transferred to the Famagusta Hospital, where it was found that he had a cerebral haemorrhage. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was then transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital, where he is hospitalized in critical condition. An offence of attempted murder is being investigated against the 17-year-old, while a conspiracy to commit murder is being investigated against the person who is being sought.

A group of young Greek Cypriots, including minors, are reportedly involved in the brutal beating of a 17-year-old tourist from Hungary, who was critically injured. The incident took place on July 2 and an 18-year-old is in custody, while six others are being sought, including minors, as it was said in the court where the first one was transferred. The Police made public the serious case on July 4, stating that the 17-year-old is hospitalized in critical condition at the Nicosia General Hospital.

The young man was beaten, while walking with a friend, on Agias Mavris Street. He was initially transferred to the Famagusta General Hospital, where it was found that he suffered a jaw fracture and a threatened airway. Subsequently, due to the seriousness of his condition, he was transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital, where he was intubated and kept for hospitalization in the intensive care unit. According to the attending physicians, his health condition has improved. A friend of the 17-year-old testified that for unknown reasons, he attacked the minor group of people who had their hair dyed. After analyzing CCTV images, it was found that someone hit the 17-year-old in the face and then kicked him while he was on the ground. The 18-year-old, who denies guilt, was remanded in custody for six days.

The unknown persons, who are alleged to be members of security personnel, according to the complaint, extracted €400 in cash and €500 from the complainants' bank card. The two young men visited the Famagusta General Hospital, where they were found to have bruises and abrasions on their faces. After receiving first aid, they were discharged.

After all, on June 7, he was savagely beaten by a group of young tourists in Ayia Napa. Police made the case public on June 27, publishing the photos of 8 young men dressed in black, allegedly involved in the case. Of these, two were identified, while six others are being sought for conspiracy to commit a felony and causing grievous bodily harm.
