A serious incident of vandalism occurred at the District Offices of the Democratic Rally in Limassol, when unknown persons invaded the area and caused extensive damage.
According to information, the perpetrators managed to reach the second floor of the building where the offices of DISY are housed, violating the security door of the entrance. After entering the building, they broke the door of the offices and then proceeded to destroy them, painting walls and furniture, while at the same time they wrote slogans with spray and threw documents and material from drawers on the floor.
Among the slogans written on the walls are "NO TO THE BILL FOR HOODED MARCHES" and the word "RUFFIANS", written with purple spray.
As we were told, the offices of DISY do not have a monitoring system at the entrance of the building, however, the bakery housed on the ground floor has a closed circuit surveillance.
Members of the Police rushed to the scene, who cordoned off the scene and are conducting on-site examinations and investigations for the identification of evidence.
The Deputy President of the Democratic Rally, Efthymios Diplaros, condemning the vandalism at the party's offices in Limassol, stressed that "the Democratic Rally is not threatened" and made it clear that the party will remain steadfast in the face of hatred, violence and anarchy. He placed particular emphasis on the threats that, as he revealed, have been received lately by MPs of the party, who were at the forefront of the submission of a bill for the ban on the hood in demonstrations. "No form of intimidation, either in the party's offices or towards our cadres, will pass," he underlined, calling on society and political forces to stand as a bulwark against those who seek the prevalence of obscurantism and violence.
Specifically, he stated:
"The Democratic Rally is not threatened. We have been and will remain against hatred, fanaticism, hooded people, anarchy, blackness, those who have nothing to do during the day but speak with their cowardly actions at night. Let them come and confront us in the political field. DISY will remain a responsible political faction, "a faction of the nonusimada, which turns its back on the difficulties, responsibly stating our position and no intimidation. Whether in the offices of our party, or in our cadres, it will not pass. The Democratic Rally was founded under difficult conditions and cannot be dismantled with sprays and hoods.
We have absolute confidence in the prosecuting authorities. They are already here in our offices, and soon the forensic service is coming. It is clear who is hiding behind. They are the ones who can with their hoods think that they can harm democracy. They will not succeed. It is in view of the bill that is being discussed today and the Democratic Rally has taken the lead. To be able to protest calmly, beautifully, without violating the rights of others. Without vandalizing, without killing, without injuring your compatriots and certainly without wearing a hood.
Lately, in view of this bill, we have been aware of threats that are being received and launched both for the party, but also for our MPs who have been at the forefront of the voting and submission of this bill that today in the Temple of Democracy we will finally put a small stone in the barrier of all those who think that with the hood and under the cover of darkness they can govern society.
We expected them to be investigated away from the spotlight. We wanted and hoped that we would not be led to what we see today. Even now, we call on all political forces, the whole of society, to stand as a bulwark against all those who want darkness, hatred, anarchy and blackness to prevail. We in the Democratic Rally will not allow us to return to such times under any circumstances. This faction has been founded in the difficult times, it remains in the difficult times and we will succeed far from any hooded and anarchy.
The Assistant Police Director of Limassol, Lefteris Kyriakou, in his statements regarding the incident of vandalism at the offices of the Democratic Rally: "This morning we were informed that unknown persons violated the entrance door of the offices of the Democratic Rally on Leontiou Street. At the scene, it was found that slogans with spray had been written on the walls and there was damage from vandalism. The scene has been cordoned off and the Criminal Investigation Service is awaiting scientific examinations, while an investigation is being conducted to identify the perpetrators." Mr. Kyriakou confirmed that so far nothing has been found to have been stolen, while he said that the violation of the entrance was done with the use of a sharp object. Asked about camera footage, he explained that this particular building does not have a surveillance system, but evidence and visual material from neighbouring buildings is being sought. The time period of the incident is placed between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, when the incident was detected.
The official announcement of DISY
Our country was dragged into the mire of fanaticism last night. Forces of darkness have struck our headquarters in Limassol. They breached the entrance, destroyed furniture and documents, and wrote threatening slogans on the walls.
Whoever the physical perpetrators of the attack may be, the moral perpetrators of the crime are the same ones who poison society and political life with their disruptive behaviour.
The Democratic Rally had warned in time of the disastrous results that the systematic cultivation of a belligerent atmosphere by the alliance of destructive populism has for the country. The unprecedented vandalism of our offices in Limassol justifies us.
Anarchy and chaos struck in order to silence moderation and reason. To create a climate of terror against the only political force that stands as a bulwark against toxicity, polarization and fanaticism.
The Democratic Rally will not be afraid, it will not be silenced, it will not stop fighting with seriousness, responsibility and rationality.

The injury of a 26-year-old driver in a traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon (8/7) in Strovolos is ultimately attributed to a malfunction of the passenger airbag. As confirmed by the investigation of the Department of Electromechanical Services, the passenger's airbag did not work as expected at the time of the collision, resulting in an explosion and metal objects being thrown, an element that is expected to be reflected in the report that will be sent to the Police only, based on the procedure followed to date.
The accident occurred around 15:50, when a 51-year-old driver from Romania, attempting a right turn from Athinon Avenue to Kerameikou Street, stopped the course of a passing vehicle driven by a 26-year-old from Syria. The young driver was injured by the collision, who was transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital, received first aid and was discharged shortly afterwards.
During the preliminary on-site examination of the Police, suspicions arose that a defective Takata airbag was activated in the 26-year-old's vehicle, something that is now confirmed by the technical inspection carried out by the Electromechanical Service. According to the same source, the vehicle was included in the recall list made public on February 3, 2025, due to the global problem with the airbags of the Japanese manufacturer Takata, but its owner had not responded to the relevant notices.
In particular, the Department of Road Transport reportedly sent two text messages to the phone number declared by the owner of the vehicle, on February 3 and May 2, 2025, reminding that a recall is pending. At the same time, the company had also sent a relevant SMS on June 10, in Greek and English, inviting him to proceed with an application for the replacement of the problematic component through a special link.
The incident brings to the surface again the serious issue of vehicle owners' compliance with the recall orders, as well as the responsibilities of the competent authorities in terms of monitoring and enforcing the relevant procedures.
The final conclusion of the technical investigation is expected to be delivered in the next few days to the Police, which continues the investigations to ascertain any responsibilities, both for the non-compliance with the revocation and for the conditions of the traffic accident. In relation to the fact that the Electromechanical Service communicates its reports on the causes of accidents only to the Police, it is expected that the matter will be clarified with the conclusion that will be delivered tomorrow by the Investigative Committee to the Attorney General. It is noted that the Committee found the gap during the previous hearings, where it was mentioned that in all four serious cases of Takata airbags (Alexandros Lougou in 2017, Kyriakos Oxynos in 2023, Styliani Giorgallis in 2024 and one in 2025), the reports being prepared are handed over exclusively to the Police, to be handled within the framework of its own responsibilities.
