ALARM IN PAPHOS - FIRE IN APARTMENT BUILDING - MAYOR LAMBASTS COMPETENT AUTHORITIES

Filenews 17 July 2025 - by Dora Christodoulou

A fire broke out in an apartment building in Paphos at noon and a strong force of the Fire Brigade worked to extinguish it, while a police force was also on the scene. The apartment building is officially uninhabited, however, foreigners are illegally residing inside, without meeting basic safety and hygiene rules, a fact that caused a strong reaction from the Mayor of Paphos who, with his intervention, thunders the competent state services and the banking institution that now owns the building for complete irresponsibility.

As it was established, the fire broke out in the ground floor area of the apartment building, in which many flammable materials, including mattresses, were found. The apartment building located on a side street of Tombs of the Kings Avenue in Kato Paphos, within walking distance of the Paphos mall, has come under the management responsibility of a bank, with Phaedon Phaedon complaining today that despite the constant warnings of the municipal authority, neither the new owner nor the state social welfare services have been sensitized to the removal of illegally residing foreigners in it and the cleaning of the area.

No people were in danger from today's fire, since those who live there managed to evacuate in time.

The Mayor of Paphos himself and the Municipality's crews rushed to the scene and undertook the removal of the materials from the place and its cleaning, while Mr. Phaedon stressed that he expects immediate action by those responsible after today's events, instead of continuing their fear of responsibility so far.
