The access of the communities of the western suburban area to the city of Paphos due to the dense traffic is very problematic and causes a traffic jam in the city center, since essentially the only access to the center is through the road in the "Diplakatzia" area.
This poor situation is the result of the ongoing serious delay in the promotion of the major project of the West Paphos Bypass, a project that with its creation will significantly alleviate traffic in the area.
This is emphasized by AKEL MP Valentinos Fakontis, who also made a demarche to the competent ministers after performances by the West Paphos Communities Complex, of which he was received. The Paphos MP of AKEL asks the competent government officials to be informed about the timetables set for the promotion and completion of the project of Phase B of the West Paphos Bypass, referring to a project that presents a huge delay, since Phase A of the project was completed in February 2012 until the junction with Tombs of the Kings Avenue.
The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, has already responded to the Fakontis performances, stating that the project has been included in the Budget for start within 2027 and that the Department of Public Works will promote the preparation of the construction plans and then the announcement of the project. As Mr. Vafeadis points out, the Department of Urban Planning and Housing has sent the final regulatory plan based on the obligations/priorities of the TDE.
Valentinos Fakontis, however, once again calls on the government and the competent ministries to move with a sense of urgency in order to complete all the necessary procedures for the promotion of the project of Phase B of the Western Bypass as soon as possible.
