THE MACHINES HAVE STARTED WORK FOR THE MOBILE DESALINATION PLANT IN POTIMA

The contractor's machinery for the mobile desalination plant of Peyia has now got to work. At the point of Potima where the mobile unit was scheduled to be placed, the special drilling machine is located the day before yesterday with which the field work will be carried out for the transfer and installation of the mobile unit, which is estimated to be in operation within four months.

The machines have already been visible to commuters on the coastal avenue of Korallia Bay-Kato Paphos since the day before yesterday and, as the District Engineer of the Paphos Water Development Department, Harris Kasioulis, told "F", in addition to the construction-type works for the prefabricated structures that will constitute the mobile unit, the machines that were transported Work has also begun in the area to examine the methodology for extracting water from the sea.

As he clarified in particular, it has been decided that the extraction of sea water will not be done by laying pipes that will go from the sea to the unit, but through boreholes that will send the sea water to the facilities. This preparatory work is started by the drilling machines, he stressed, so that everything is tested and ready for the transfer of seawater to the mobile unit as soon as it is placed in the area.

Mr. Kasioulis also revealed to "F" that today the experts who have been dealing with the repair of the damage caused are going to the Mavrokolymbos dam again, in order to carry out a final check on the methodology that will be selected for the repair.

The head of the Department in Paphos stressed in particular that the experts have in front of them all this time since the drainage of the dam the data on the damage caused and the possible solutions that can be implemented and during their visit to Mavrokolymbos, they will proceed to a final examination of the situation in order to submit the solution they prefer so that the dam can be safely reopened.

The experts will be accompanied on site by a team of the Water Department under Mr. Kasioulis and officials of the Ministry of Agriculture.
