Cyprus is adjacent to the theatre of war, to the theatre of the absurd. In our neighbourhood, bills are being settled. And it is an opportunity for those involved, whether there is an occasion or not, to "clean" the landscape. Their own landscape. And it may be that at this stage there may be analyses of the military capabilities of Israel and Iran, but at the same time, the most calm and without the blinders of fanaticism should raise another - the most important - issue by questioning: Will this be how the differences will be resolved? With war?
Israel's attack on Iran and Tehran's response create conditions for the region, the world, to become hell. Netanyahu expresses the extreme right and this man, as is well known, is accused of corruption. And it is the war, which postpones the trial of its cases, although at home these issues remain in the foreground and are being discussed.
The country's powerful military machine and powerful intelligence system (Mossad) can and does send the bombs to Iranian state officials, locating them and killing them with "surgical interventions". This mechanism, the powerful, famous and terrible, failed to identify, to be informed about Hamas' plans! After the bloody October, they "discovered" enemies in Gaza in hospitals and schools. And they flatten them. And in the context of dealing with the enemy, they impose ethnic cleansing through the well-known methods, starvation and attacks, which constitute genocide. As far as "surgical" operations are concerned, it is clear that this as a practice sets a precedent. The executions, that is, of state officials, presidents, military leaders, is a practice that was used by the Americans in the past during the Cold War period. When they acted as a deterrent and overthrew regimes that were suspected of being pro-communist or not following American norms.
On the other side, the regime of the mullahs stand opposite democracy, imposing a regime that is suffocating and oppressive for the citizens of the country. A theocratic regime, which does not allow the country to move in the right direction, despite its history and culture. It is a regime that finances extreme destabilization groups in various countries in the region, and this also provokes the reaction of the societies and leaders of Arab countries. It is a destabilizing force and no one disputes that. It is also dangerous because of its nuclear designs. It is not, however, the only nuclear power in the world.
This war is obviously dead-end and very dangerous. The dance is dragged by Netanyahu. The rest follow him; he always has the support of the United States, which is involved in the whole project. It may be said - and it is true - that the European Union is absent, but it is clear that in Brussels they support Israel, even if they show, for example, their "sympathy" for the starving Palestinians. On this side of history, the extreme right-wingers also take a stand, and this is a matter to be evaluated, analyzed.
Within this scenario, the Republic of Cyprus is walking in a balanced way so that it can have a role. And it has a role. This, which it deserves and perhaps more. This is confirmed by its actions. At the same time, for Cyprus, a semi-occupied country, as far as the Palestinian issue is concerned, should be on the right side of history. With the law, that is. To take an anti-occupation position. As he took a position on what is happening in Ukraine, after Russia's invasion of that country.
