PAPHOS - ELDERLY FACILITY - LETTER TO THE MINISTER OF FINANCE

 Pafos Live 24 June 2025

In an extraordinary session held last Saturday, June 21 under the chairmanship of the Mayor Mr. Phaedon Phaedonos, the Municipal Council discussed in detail the issue of the implementation of the Model Center for Long-Term Care and Employment of the Elderly, which is scheduled to be erected in the Mouttalos District, in light of the non-approval by the Minister of Finance of the Feasibility Study prepared for the project by the Municipality through a professional house.

The Council, reaffirming its position that the project is a high priority necessity for the city of Paphos and the wider area and pointing out that the Municipality, acting with speed, methodicality and efficiency, brought the project to a stage of full maturity, expressed its readiness and strong will to proceed to any action that will be appropriately indicated by the Minister of Finance so that the project is not cancelled or suspended but that its construction begins within of 2025. To this end, the Council deems it necessary to hold a meeting between the Mayor and the Minister of Finance as soon as possible in the presence of their competent partners.

The Municipality of Paphos is determined to implement the project because it is convinced that society needs it.

In a city and province where the population is growing and aging, such modern infrastructures with a rough social sign and footprint are more necessary than ever and we believe that as a State we are too late to create them. It is for this reason that the Municipality proceeded with the preparation of the Feasibility Study, which demonstrated that the project is economically viable, regardless of how it will be financed.

According to the decision of the Municipal Council, a detailed letter has been sent today to the Minister of Finance, Mr. Makis Keravnos, in relation to the issue that has arisen. The letter requests, as provided for in this decision of the Council, that a meeting between the Minister and the Mayor of Paphos be held as soon as possible.
