NEW PLAN FOR ELECTROMOBILITY WITH €2.5million APPROVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS - 260 GRANTS FOR ELECTRIC AND HYBRID VEHICLES

Filenews 25 June 2025

Following the meeting of the Council of Ministers on 25 June 2025, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, stated that, continuing their commitment to the transition to clean and sustainable forms of transport, they were announcing a new plan to boost electromobility in Cyprus, which had been approved by the Council of Ministers and aimed to boost the market of pure electric and hybrid vehicles through state resources.

He explained that electromobility was one of the key priorities of the government's policy, because the transition to clean forms of transport was necessary to achieve Cyprus' environmental goals. As part of the new plan, he noted, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works aimed to strengthen the market of electric vehicles, providing sponsorships and incentives for the purchase of new and used vehicles, so that electromobility would become accessible to more citizens.

He also added that prior to the implementation of the new plan, in the context of the 3rd call for the E-mobility Promotion Plan in Cyprus, 97 sponsorships were to be made available again for vehicles and 18 for motorcycles resulting from applications that were not linked to an order or that were cancelled. He noted that with the exhaustion of these sponsorships, the launch of the new plan to support electromobility from state resources was to be announced.

He also said that €2.5 million had been allocated to the new project from the state budget and that the amounts of grants were the same as those of the previous scheme, with a total of 260 grants for the purchase of pure electric and hybrid vehicles. He clarified that citizens who had ordered a car after the expiration of the previous plan could also claim sponsorship.

Finally, he said that an announcement on the allocation to the various categories of sponsorship, on the date of their availability, as well as on the terms of the project, was to be posted on the website of the Department of Road Transport.
