JIVE DANCER - MODERN JIVE CLUB OF PAPHOS
Main Church Hall, Chlorakas [between the large carpark and the church]
9, 16, 23 & 30 September - 7pm [note will not operate July and August due to the heat]
€3pp per night for P3A members, €5 for non-members
The Paphos Jivers are a friendly group of Modern Jive dancers who meet at 7pm on Tuesdays at the main Church Hall in Chloraka Village (located between the large car park and the church). Modern jive is a partnered dance which has its roots in Lindy Hop and Salsa, but it is less complicated to learn and can be danced to a greater variety of music.
New dancers can start any week, and even after the first week you will know a simple routine. We do not stay in fixed couples, so our evenings are perfect for both singles and couples, and we regularly take the opportunity to practice our dancing skills at music events around Paphos, you may have seen us dancing, and you are welcome to join us!
Ever wondered what those cool couples were dancing?
Modern Jive is not quite Salsa, not quite Swing, but still two people with smooth moves dancing as one on the dance floor.
Can we show you how easy it is to learn to dance with a partner, just like them?
We will be dancing at the fabulous Main Hall in Chloraka Square (Directions at the end of the page)
Classes are every Tuesday, start at 7pm and cost €3 per night.

BEGINNER CLASSES
We start every lesson with a beginners' session, three or four foundation moves to show how to keep the beat and the best way to maintain contact with your partner. We always start in the handhold you will have when you reach the dance floor and each week we add two new moves and repeat one or two from the previous week. After a few weeks you will want to join the intermediate lesson, where those beginners’ moves are developed into smoother more stylish moves that really do impress on the dance floor.
Two left feet? Don’t worry, this is probably the easiest dance style to dance with a partner, we believe that as long as you smile your feet will follow.
No partner? Again don’t worry, during the classes we rotate partners as it is the easiest way to learn. When we practice after the lesson you will learn the best way to ask others to dance, and when we go dancing there will usually be a crowd of us.
Shy? Hide your shyness behind your dancing. As long as you can smile you can express yourself in your dancing.
Social? Yes, we do like to chat, and love a dance at the many local bars and bands. If you live in the area you may well have already seen us, and we do support the local bands when we can.
Will you love it? Yes, it is a bit of a challenge at first as your brain and feet have different ideas, but we have all been there and you will soon get over it. Each lesson is a complete routine (even in your first week), however it takes about 6 weeks to get going and then you are hooked. The best part is that our lessons are very similar to Modern Jive and Ceroc lessons in the UK and across the world, so you can take your dancing with you wherever you go.
Is it good for you? Smooth Jive will improve your co-ordination, your fitness and your confidence, and it is far more social than going to the Gym.
The ladies love it and the men... give it three weeks and they won't want to stop!

(If you want to come along, ask for Philip or Lyn, who will introduce you to the other dancers. Don't worry we all were beginners once, and we are very sociable to the point that we have been described as a social gathering interrupted by dancing!)
****. LADIES are advised to bring slippery shoes that will help you to spin, and not stick to the tiled floor. ****
