FOOD PRICES IN CYPRUS AND EUROPE - WHICH IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE?

Where the prices of food and services in Cyprus fluctuate, are higher or lower than the corresponding price levels in the European Union, records a Eurostat analysis for 2024 (Household consumption: price levels in 2024). From this analysis, it emerges that Cyprus has higher prices than the European average for a range of products and services, but also cheaper. According to the presentation of the data by Fileleftheros, Cyprus is the champion in the prices of milk, cheese and eggs, with the relevant index being 130.8 points and is 30.8% higher than the EU, followed by Greece with the second highest index of 130.5 among the EU-20.

But let's see what is happening in other countries as well. The price index for dairy products is 96 points in France, 99.5 in Belgium, 105 in Italy, 114.2 in Estonia, 123.5 in Malta, 97.1 in Germany, 111 in Croatia. The differences from Europe in food prices do not stop only in the dairy category. The price index for oils and fats is 116.7 points and the EU-20 average is 100.6 points. For bread and cereals, the price index in Cyprus for 2024 was 109.3 points and the European average was 105.6 points. Cyprus is the least expensive country for fruits, vegetables and potatoes with the index being 98.4 points and in Greece 89.2 points. In the other countries, the index is 111.5 points for Denmark, 119.2 points for France, 103.1 points for Austria, 113.8 points for Malta, 112.4 points for Finland, 110.7 points for Estonia. For meat, the price index in Cyprus is 88.3 points, in Greece 95.2 points, in Luxembourg 137 points, in Germany 112.3 points, in Portugal 87.9 points and the EU-20 average at 106.2 points.

The index for fish prices in Cyprus is at 101.8 points, in Greece at 112.4 points, in Denmark at 129.7 points, in Austria at 125.8 points, in Portugal at 91 points and the European average of the "20" is 100.3 points.
