The Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Giorgos Papanastasiou, will have a private meeting with his counterpart the Minister of Petroleum of Egypt, with the main topic of discussion being the crucial agreements signed in February 2025 between Cyprus and Egypt regarding the development of the "Aphrodite" field, as well as the deposits in Block 6 ("Kronos, Zeus" and "Calypso") of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus.
The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the Financial Times conference on energy transition. In particular, the Minister of Energy departs tonight Monday for Athens, where he will participate in the work of the "Financial Times" international conference on the energy transition, entitled "Energy Transition Summit: East Med and Southeast Europe", which is organized on June 17 and 18, 2025.
Mr. Papanastasiou will take part on Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m., in a Ministerial Discussion on "Achieving regional synergy in a transitional energy landscape". The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources of Egypt Karim Badawi and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Tasos Hadjivassiliou will also participate in the discussion, while the journalist and contributor of "Kathimerini" Apostolos Maggiriadis will be coordinated. The Minister of Energy will return to Cyprus on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
