The two Azerbaijanis who were arrested in Cyprus and Greece, respectively, for espionage had the same mode of action. Apart from that, they also had identical equipment.
The suspect from Cyprus, as is known, was taking photos from the British bases of Akrotiri and the "Andreas Papandreou" air base. The 26-year-old, who was arrested in Crete two days later, was photographing ships at the naval base of Souda.
They were taking photographs in the midst of a crisis in the Middle East at a time when strikes between Israel and Iran were in full swing, having the same mode of action but using identical equipment.
As we wrote, the Azerbaijani in Cyprus had a Nikon Coolpix P1100 professional camera with him. It allows 125 times optical magnification (zoom) and has high definition. Such cameras are used for surveillance purposes.
According to information from Greece, the 26-year-old Azerbaijani who operated in Souda also had a photograph of the same type (Nikon Coolpix) that he allegedly bought from a store in Athens. Through encryption software, he transferred a large amount of files to an unknown person.
From the very first moment, even if there was no official information, the authorities of Cyprus and Greece cooperated, exchanging information.
The indications reveal that the two arrested had a common mode of action and possibly a common recruiter-head of the intelligence gathering circuit.
This morning, the detention order against the Azerbaijani was renewed for another eight days. The suspect was brought on Sunday morning before the Limassol District Court, from Nicosia, where he is being held, under draconian security measures and accompanied by members of the anti-terrorist group. The procedure was carried out behind closed doors for security reasons. The court approved the investigators' request and renewed his detention for another eight days.
The investigations of the investigators of the TAE Headquarters who handle the case are in full progress, while the action of the Azerbaijani, holder of a British passport, is in constant communication with security authorities of other countries.
Communication with the security authorities of Greece is also continuous, where another Azerbaijani was arrested a few days ago in Crete, while any correlation between the cases is being examined.

An 18-month prison sentence, without suspension, was imposed today by the Nicosia Military Court on the Chief of the Commando Squadron, who was found guilty of the death of 27-year-old commando Panagiotis Gianniou, during a military exercise in June 2022.
Gianniou lost his life after falling into the sea during an exercise, an incident that led to a judicial process for attributing responsibilities to the head of the educational activity.
During the reading of the decision, the Judge pointed out that "the defendant was found guilty of causing the death of Giannios due to a reckless act. The accused was a throwing leader and had to give permission to the commandos to fall into the sea." "The defendant gave Giannios permission to fall into the sea. Giannios died as a result of the fall. He was 27 years old," he added.
The Court stressed that it was not found that this was a momentary or isolated mistake, but "dangerous reckless behaviour". The judge also stated that, although the defendant fell into the sea to help Giannios, "no evidence emerged that he endangered his own life".
Mitigating factors taken into account
In the decision, it was stated that his blank criminal record, his personal and family situation, as well as his service in the National Guard were taken into account in favour of the accused.
A total of 25 prosecution and two defense witnesses testified in the case. The length of the trial was not considered excessive or decisive for the decision on the sentence.

Investigations at many levels are being carried out by the TAE of the Police Headquarters regarding the serious case of the alleged ring with illegal activities, including drug trafficking and trafficking, provision of protection, etc.
Six persons are in custody as suspects in connection with the case. He is a 45-year-old prisoner of the Central Prison, the friend of the 37-year-old, a family known for its business activities, three of her relatives and another 40-year-old.
Today, according to information from Filenews, the Police informed the Deputy Director of the Central Prisons about the investigations being conducted, the offenses being examined and the possible involvement of the three prison guards. After this development, the deputy Deputy Inspector General of the Central Prison Police Department. Director Konstantinos Konstantinidis, sent a letter to the Ministry of Justice requesting that actions be taken in the EDY so that the three prison guards are made available.
It is noted that two of them had recently been suspended in the context of other investigations, however, after their actions it was cancelled and they returned to their duties.
As reported to the Court by the investigator of the case during the presentation of the five suspects to the Court last Friday, the 37-year-old businesswoman allegedly gave money to prison guards in order to have a more favourable treatment in the Central Prison for the barrister with whom she had a relationship. To date, however, the investigators have not made any other moves regarding the members of the penitentiary.
In the meantime, investigations into the case continue and it is expected that the Police will request the opening of bank accounts of some of the suspects in order to examine whether there is money that is not declared or that is not justified. According to the Police's allegations to the Court, after investigations by the prosecuting authorities at the residences of family members and their jewellery store, as well as the home of the 40-year-old suspect, cash was found, amounting to around €300,000. Their origin is examined depending on the allegations made by the suspects.
According to the Police, the money was the result of illegal activity, such as drug trafficking, the provision of protection and illegal gambling services. From the calculations of the Police, as also reported to the Court, it appears that in recent months these allegedly illegal activities have generated an amount of around one million euros, while they seem to have been distributed around €50,000 per week.
