The authorities are concerned about the fires that have broken out in recent days in areas of Paphos. Since last Saturday, four fires have broken out in areas of the communities of Tala, Drynia, Drousia and Salami, burning areas with dry grass and wild vegetation, while in at least two cases individual houses outside the nuclei of the communities were protected.
The fire started shortly before ten last night from two different outbreaks in an area between the communities of Pentalia, Galataria and Salami, burning an area of 5 hectares covered by dry grass and wild vegetation.
It was extinguished around 2.30am. The fire was quickly controlled in an area with limited road network and accesses.
Forces of the fire service, the forestry department and the hunting service worked to extinguish the fire, while a chain vehicle of the provincial administration was also used to create fire protection strips, helping to control and eventually extinguish the fire.
