The entire state apparatus was put on alert after Israel's strikes on Iran. Emergency measures have been taken since the morning by the Police at airports and ports, but also in many other places, with the situation being constantly evaluated according to developments.
The Chief of Police, immediately after learning that the Israeli strikes had taken place on Iranian facilities, sent a message to all Police Directors, Commanders of units and departments, with instructions for increased vigilance and measures to be taken where necessary.
With his message, the Chief calls on all those responsible to prepare an action plan for their city in order to cover possible targets (ports, airports, Jewish synagogues, embassies, etc.) with emergency measures and at the same time asks the directors not to give absentee leave as usual.
Also, Chief Themistos Arnaoutis calls for the staff who are off duty to be on increased readiness and to respond immediately in case of call.
The situation is being monitored from Luxembourg, where the Minister of Justice and Public Order Marios Hartsiotis is also attending the ministerial meeting. As he told Filenews, the whole situation is constantly being evaluated and depending on the information received, the measures are also updated. "I am in an open line with co-competent ministers in Cyprus and the services involved," Mr. Hartsiotis added.
It is noted that the Police have strengthened security measures since the morning in areas considered to be high-risk, mainly with the increase in patrols outside embassies in Nicosia. Security measures at the Israeli embassy are in line with patrols outside the U.S. and Iranian embassies.
Other competent state services are also on alert, so that depending on the escalation of things, they are ready to respond. In the afternoon, the National Security Council is expected to convene to assess the situation.
