WORK HAS BEEN DONE, TECHNIP ENERGIES GOES TO VASSILIKO TOMORROW

Filenews 28 May 2025 - by Chrysanthos Manoli

Tomorrow, the people of Technip Energies, the company that won the ETYFA contract for the role of project manager, will make their first visit to the idle construction site of the terminal in Vassiliko, so that the works can resume soon and the liquefied natural gas regasification terminal will be delivered as soon as possible.

As Fileleftheros is informed, the ETYFA – Technip Energies contract was activated on Monday, after the final consultations of the two parties on the launch of the actions to be taken in the coming period.

Following the activation of the agreement, Technip Energies gained access to all documents, drawings and data relating to the terminal project. After tomorrow's official meeting of ETYFA with the representatives of the French company in Vassilikos, the undertaking of the project by Technip Energies begins on the ground, with the first priority being the evaluation of the state in which the project is located and the promotion of tenders for the selection of a contractor who will construct the terminal's ground infrastructure.

It is reasonable to expect that it will take a few months for the project manager's crew to take turns, even though during the negotiations for the signing of a contract he has formed a good picture of the project and the problems that inactivated it.

The pier and erosion

At the same time, ETYFA is in constant contact with the people of the VPSM consortium (Multimarine Services and Spanopoulos Group), in order to make it possible to sign a contract for the resumption of the completion works of the pier, to which the Prometheus FSRU will be moored.

The main problems that had arisen in the previous weeks within the consortium seem to have been overcome and the consultations with ETYFA are in a good place, but for the time being there has not been an agreement on the financial issue.

We are informed that at this stage procedures are underway to control the installed elements of the pier, to identify possible displacement or erosion of the metal piles and other infrastructure, after their long stay at sea without the necessary protection, as the works were suddenly interrupted by decision of the CPP.

Ascertaining the current state of the unfinished pier infrastructure is an important element in concluding the negotiation with VPSM. As it is understood, if the pier has been damaged by erosion or if significant elements of it have been displaced, additional work will be needed, at additional cost, to restore the condition to an acceptable point. The final de facto negotiation will take place after the completion of the assessment of the current situation of the pier. The goal remains the signing of an agreement in June and the resumption of the works in July.

As has been mentioned before, the weather conditions in Vassiliko generally do not allow work in the sea during the period from November to March. Therefore, efforts will be made to make the most of the period from July to October, although it is estimated that this four-month period will not be enough for the completion of the jetty.
