THE E-KALATHI APP IS COMING - WHEN DOES IT GO LIVE?

 Filenews 14 May 2025

The e-kalathi application is expected to be available for public use within the coming week, according to the head of the Competition Branch at the Consumer Protection Agency, Aliki Iordanos.

It is recalled that Apple's approval was pending at the end of April for the app to be available for devices using the iOS operating system. Mrs. Iordanou explained that the approval was given, after some technical changes were made, which, however, she clarified, do not affect the substance or the final image that the user will have.

Responding to a question about the next steps, Ms. Iordanou said that before the application is put into operation, supermarkets should be informed about 2-3 days in advance, in order to download the prices of products in the system. He noted that a preliminary update on Apple's approval was given to supermarkets as early as May 2.

Mrs. Iordanou reminded that 22 supermarket chains, with a total of 165 stores, have contracted with the application, as well as that a total of 478 products will be posted on it, the prices of which will be updated only whenever there is a change.

He also noted that the system will display information both to the contractor operator, as well as to the Service, in case an excessively high price is detected, so that there can be immediate communication with the supermarket, in order to determine whether the issue is technical or of another nature and to be properly managed.
