ROBBERIES AGAINST DELIVERY DRIVERS ARE A SCOURGE - THE AREAS WERE MAPPED

They do not say that the attacks and robberies against
food distributors in Limassol should stop, with the Limassol Police Directorate preparing an order for operations, after mapping the areas where an increase in relevant cases is recorded. At the same time, intense concern is recorded, since, as it seems, in the vast majority of robberies are not related to racist motives but the motive of the perpetrators seems to be the monetary benefit.

Attacks on food distributors have numbered around 20 in the last five months, with the most recent robberies totalling four, including the one the day before yesterday. Apart from official complaints made by foreign distributors, there are also cases that are not officially reported, however, the authorities are informed through other sources.

According to information from "F", an investigative team has already been set up in the Police Directorate in relation to the robberies, while a special operational order is expected to be implemented for deterrent purposes. The order will include targeted patrols and increased policing in areas where crime is rising. The mapping of the disputed areas has already been completed.

In statements to "F", the spokesperson of the Limassol ADE and head of the TAE, Lefteris Kyriakou, said that the oldest cases of robberies with food delivery victims, which were recorded at the end of 2024, have been solved and the perpetrators are now facing Justice. He also stressed that most of them are young.

As far as attacks against foreign distributors are concerned, it is not excluded that in some cases these are also incidents of competition between distributors. Various closed circuits of surveillance have also been put under the microscope of repeated attacks and robberies against food distributors, in an attempt to identify the perpetrators.

The most recent case of assault and robbery at a food delivery company took place on Thursday night. According to the Police, it was reported to the Limassol Police Department by a 24-year-old delivery man that around 10:15 in the evening, while he was returning to his residence on an electric bicycle, in the area of Kato Polemidia, two unknown men who were moving on foot blocked his road and asked him for money. When he refused, one of them hit him, and then they stole his bicycle and fled.

Three other attacks on distributors were recorded on Tuesday night, in a similar way of acting, which leaves open the possibility that they are the same perpetrators. The first attack occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m., when two hooded people, riding a motorcycle, attacked a 24-year-old distributor. The delivery man fell to the ground and was injured, while his assailants grabbed his purse, which contained 100 euros, as well as his moped, which was located a little later via GPS. The 24-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he was given first aid.

The second attack was recorded around 11:30 p.m., at the photo-controlled intersection of Makariou and Agia Zoni Avenues, in the center of Limassol. Two hooded people, riding on two motorcycles, attacked a 22-year-old distributor, kicking his motorcycle.

The third attack occurred at 11:20 p.m. in the area of Agia Fyla, when four hooded people, riding on two motorcycles, approached a 29-year-old delivery man. One of them kicked his motorcycle, causing the distributor to fall to the ground, but was not injured. The perpetrators left the scene.
