Honouring the memory of the thousands of victims of the Genocide of Pontic Greeks, the Municipality of Paphos is organizing two-day events of Memory and Honour for the Genocide of the Pontic Greeks this year.
The events begin today, Saturday, at 6.00 p.m., with a gathering at 28th October Square, in front of the Municipal Hall and a march to the Genocide Park of Pontic Hellenism, on Evagoras Pallikaridi Avenue.
At 7.00 p.m., at the Markideion Municipal Theater, the main event will take place with Konstantinos Fotiadis, Professor of History of Modern Hellenism at the University of Western Macedonia, speaking on the subject: "The Genocide of the Pontic Greeks".
The event will be accompanied by an artistic program curated by the Cultural Folklore Workshop of Konia.
The events culminate tomorrow, Sunday, at 8.30 a.m., with the celebration of a religious memorial service for the victims of the Genocide at the Holy Church of the Holy Unmercenaries in Kato Paphos, presided over by Archbishop George of Cyprus, assisted by the Metropolitan of Paphos Tychicos. The keynote speaker will be the Director General of CyBC, Thanasis Tsokos.
This will be followed by a trisagion and the laying of wreaths at the Pontian Genocide Monument located in the surrounding area of the Church.
