The European Commission is investing €910 million under the 2024 edition of the European Defence Fund "to create a strong and innovative defence industry in Europe".
As announced today, these investments aim to fill key capability gaps – such as force mobility and drone defence – through innovation and cooperation between European science and industry. An important parameter is that for the first time, Ukrainian defense industries can be connected to projects of the European Defense Fund.
"This investment will support 62 selected projects to create a strong and innovative defence industry in Europe," Commission spokesman Thomas Rinier said today. According to the White Paper, "it is necessary to fill key skills gaps through innovation and cooperation between European science and industry."
