A coordinated operation at a premises in Paphos, was carried out yesterday morning, after an evaluation of information, by members of the Anti-Narcotics Service, the Anti-Intellectual Property, and Illegal Betting Branch of the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate and the Central Police Station of Paphos, as well as officials of the Pharmaceutical and Health Services.

Specifically, a search was carried out on the basis of a court warrant at a premises in Paphos where 9 packages/products containing the substance cannabidiol (CBD), for which there is no marketing authorization in the Republic of Cyprus, three packages containing cannabinol (CBN) in liquid form, as well as 21 packages containing green dry cannabis plant matter with a total weight of approximately 24 grams were found and confiscated.

All the findings were taken for further scientific examinations, while the 36-year-old owner of the premises in question was arrested for flagrant offenses.

The Paphos District Court issued two-day detention orders against the contractor and the operator of the lifting machine after the fatal worker accident that occurred yesterday afternoon in Peyia.

The victim is ALDAHDOUH HOUSAIN, 35 years old, from Syria. According to the data under investigation, Wednesday around 4.30 p.m., while the 35-year-old was working in a building under construction and was passing under a forklift, which at the given time, was lifting a pile of wood, the strap that held the wood broke, resulting in the wood falling on the 34-year-old and injuring him.

The 34-year-old was transferred to the Paphos General Hospital, where, despite the efforts made by the doctors on duty, at 17:52, succumbed to his injuries.

The kangaroo was procured from a property in the free city of Famagusta, which has a farm with animals and belongs to a Greek Cypriot, by the two foreigners, who were seen dismembering it last Tuesday, in the parking lot of an apartment building in Deryneia. It is recalled that a 36-year-old from Cameroon, who was illegally residing in the Republic, is being detained for the case, while a second person of African origin is also being sought.

The allegations that exist before the Famagusta Police are that the animal was delivered dead, however, they are being investigated and it is something that will be demonstrated by the autopsy that will be carried out on Monday by the Veterinary Services. The owner of the farm will be questioned, while investigations will also be carried out by the Veterinary Services to see if the animals were declared, as stipulated by the law.

The unprecedented case was revealed when the Police received a complaint on Tuesday afternoon that two foreigners were dismembering an animal in the parking lot of an apartment building. The police officers who rushed to the scene found plastic bags containing a sliced kangaroo, an axe and five knives.

The 36-year-old was arrested on the spot, while the other foreigner managed to escape. When he was transferred to the Deryneia Police Station, it was found that he was illegally residing in Cyprus, after his request for asylum was rejected in 2022. The suspect, who was remanded in custody yesterday by the Famagusta Court in Paralimni, is facing offences related to subjecting an animal to pain, suffering, injury or fear, subjecting an animal to a horrific death, possession of an animal that is not allowed and illegal stay on the territory of the Republic.

The 47-year-old man who was arrested yesterday, in connection with the fire that broke out on Tuesday night (6/5/25) in a metal shack in the Zakaki area, will not be brought before the Limassol District Court  yet for the issuance of a detention order. The fire was accompanied by strong explosions of firecrackers and fireworks, causing great concern to residents.

The 47-year-old was detained and interrogated, while he is expected to be charged in writing with offenses related to the possession and storage of explosives without a relevant permit. He will then be released and summoned later before the Court.

It is noted that this is a relative of the owner of the plot in which the shack was found. According to information, firecrackers and fireworks had been placed at the site for some time.

The same information states that the 47-year-old had been convicted in the past for a similar case, as a large amount of explosives was found in his possession.

It is recalled that testimony has been obtained against him for the possession and storage of the fireworks in the metal warehouse.

Investigations into the case are ongoing, while so far it has not been clarified how the explosion and then the fire were caused.

The Police have arrested a third person, a 20-year-old man, in the context of an investigation into a case of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, and causing malicious damage to a patrol vehicle, offences committed on April 17, 2025, in Limassol.

The 20-year-old was arrested by members of the Police in Limassol, around 4.00 p.m. yesterday, pursuant to a court warrant, which was issued on the basis of evidence that emerged during the investigation of the case. He was detained for the purpose of police examinations.

For the same case, two other minors, aged 16, were arrested on May 2, also under court warrants. They have been charged in writing and released, to be summoned at a later stage.

According to the data under investigation, late in the afternoon of Holy Thursday, April 17, the Police received information about a gathering of about 20 people, who had their faces covered with hoods and allegedly had lit a fire, in an area of Limassol.

Members of the Police went to the area for examinations, where during the patrol, a number of people threw stones at the patrol vehicle, resulting in damage to it.

The Limassol Central Police Station continues its examinations.

A new attack on a food delivery man took place last night in Limassol.

Specifically, the 24-year-old complained that around 10:15 last night, while he was returning to his residence, riding an electric bicycle in an area of Kato Polemidia, he was stopped by two people, who were moving on foot, and asked him to give them money.

As he reported, he refused, one of the suspects attacked him and then the two suspects stole his bike and fled.

The Limassol TAE is investigating.

A man inside a building in the area of Omorfitas, in Nicosia, was located by the Police, after an alarm system was activated around 9:00 p.m. The 28-year-old was in possession of burglary tools.

The man was arrested for the flagrant offenses of illegal entry into property and possession of burglary tools.

According to the manager, the building is abandoned/remains unused, while no property seems to have been stolen from it.

The 28-year-old was detained, with the Nicosia TAE investigating.

The Police arrested a minor for the riot incidents in Livadia on the evening of Holy Saturday.

Specifically, a 171/2-year-old person was arrested yesterday afternoon by the Police, as part of the examinations regarding the incidents of rioting and throwing of firecrackers, in Livadia Larnaca.

Two people were taken to the hospital after an attack, with a difference of only half an hour, in Limassol. Both had lost consciousness.

According to the Police, which is investigating the incidents , a man was found in Limassol at dawn with head injuries.

Specifically, around 1:30, a 34-year-old man was transported by ambulance to the Limassol General Hospital, with head injuries and unconscious.

He received treatment, with his health condition out of danger.

According to the data so far, while he was walking in an area in Limassol, he was allegedly attacked by an unknown person.

Second attack in half an hour

A little later, around 2:00 in the morning, after receiving information, members of the Police located in an area in Limassol, a 37-year-old man, who had injuries to his hands and legs and was lying on the ground, unconscious.

He was picked up by an ambulance crew who transported him to the Limassol General Hospital, where he undergoes medical examinations.

The circumstances of his injury are being investigated by the Police, with the Limassol Central Police Station investigating.
