A 26-year-old foreign resident of Paphos was driving under the influence of alcohol. Around 20:15 last night, members of the Z team of the Paphos Traffic Police located the 26-year-old, on Nestor Street in Paphos.

He had parked his vehicle with the engine on. The 26-year-old underwent a preliminary alcohol test with a reading of 111 mg% instead of 22 mg. The 26-year-old was then asked to carry out a final alcohol test, however, he refused to carry out such a test, resulting in his arrest for the flagrant offense of refusing to provide a breath test and being detained.

A large number of items, believed to be the products of theft, were located and confiscated this morning by the Police. The objects in question were found in the home of a 39-year-old, who had been arrested a little earlier, for the flagrant offenses of illegal possession of property and possession of burglary tools.

Specifically, around 5 a.m. a motorized patrol of the MMAD spotted a man and a child riding a bicycle on a road in Nicosia. In their possession they had two small travel bags and a shoulder bag, from which an iron bar protruded.

The police officers stopped them for a check and after a relevant investigation it was found that inside the bags, in addition to the iron bar, there were various ecclesiastical objects, for which the man did not give satisfactory explanations for how they were found in his possession. In the possession of the man, a nylon bag was also found and confiscated, inside which there was a crystalline, possibly narcotic substance.

The man was arrested for flagrant offenses and was transferred, along with the child, to the offices of the Nicosia TAE. As it was found from examinations that followed, it is a 39-year-old resident of Nicosia, while the child is his 12-year-old son. At the offices of the Nicosia TAE, an officer of the Social Welfare Services was called, who undertook the supervision of the minor.

A search of the 39-year-old's home followed, where a large number of credit cards, bicycles, electric scooters, computers, tools and other valuables, which are believed to be stolen goods, were found and confiscated.

The 39-year-old was detained to facilitate the investigations, while tomorrow he is expected to be brought before the Court for the issuance of a detention order.

Around 01:00 in the morning, members of the Famagusta Police Department stopped a vehicle on Protaras Avenue, which was driven by a 25-year-old man, with a 24-year-old passenger. In a search carried out on the vehicle in which these persons were, 285 ampoules of nitrous oxide (laughing gas), 14 used ampoules of nitrous oxide, two devices for emptying nitrous oxide and 98 black balloons were found.

The above two persons were arrested for flagrant offenses, while all those found were received as evidence and will be sent for scientific examinations.

It should be noted that the 25-year-old driver of the vehicle underwent a preliminary drug test with a positive indication.

Subsequently, after being questioned in writing, both were released to be summoned later before a court.

A 45 year old woman driving under the influence lost control of her vehicle last night at the Nicosia suburb of Lakatamia and collided head on with a vehicle from the opposite direction being driven by a 31 year old woman.

They were luckily no injuries from the accident. The drunk driver underwent a preliminary breathalyser test which showed 77mg of alcohol in her blood, more than three times the allowed limit of 22mg.

She was tested again at the station after it was established she had no injuries and the final sample indicated 96mg of alcohol, more than four times the allowed limit.

The woman was subsequently arrested and placed in custody for drink driving, with authorities continuing a nationwide campaign to clamp down on the rising phenomenon of intoxicated drivers.

A murder case is being investigated by the Limassol Police Department, regarding the death of a 45-year-old Greek Cypriot, who was found dead on Sunday morning in the ground floor parking lot of the apartment building where he lives, in the area of Neapolis. According to information from Filenews, at this moment a person was taken to the Police Station, who is being questioned and who seems to have had differences with the victim.

According to the Police, the man has knife wounds to various parts of his body. According to the same information, a relative of his was looking for him earlier, calling him on his phone.

The 45-year-old, according to the same sources, had previously employed the authorities and specifically the Police Department.

Members of the Limassol TAE rushed to the scene, who blocked the scene for on-site examinations and investigations, while examinations are also being carried out by members of the Criminal Investigation Service of the Police Headquarters.

Forensic pathologist Angeliki Papetta is expected to arrive for examinations.
