The Larnaca District Court imposed a two-year prison sentence on a 32-year-old man from Romania, who was found guilty, after a long hearing, of causing death due to a reckless act that resulted in a fatal road accident in October 2022, with the victim being 27-year-old Alraghed Ahmad from Syria, who was working in Cyprus. In addition, the defendant was sentenced to 8 points and deprived of his right to hold or receive a driver's license for a period of 3 months.

The accident occurred at 7 a.m. on October 15, 2022 in Larnaca. The unfortunate 27-year-old was in the back of a car, driven by a compatriot and in which two other people were on board. The vehicle stopped with the hazard lights on, at the entrance of Bouboulinas Street. At some point, a car driven by the 32-year-old collided with it, resulting in the critical injury of the 27-year-old, who was transferred with severe head injuries to the Larnaca General Hospital.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at midnight the next day. According to the court's findings, the defendant's reckless act essentially lies in the fact that while the vehicle in which the foreigners were riding "was within his field of vision from a distance of 150 meters and there were no other vehicles, either in front of him or in the right lane of traffic in the same direction and he saw and perceived his presence" he ignored the risk of causing a traffic collision, and continued to drive unhindered in the left lane, "without taking measures to avoid the collision, despite having plenty of time, space and unobstructed visibility".

In the calculation of the sentence, the seriousness of the offence and its consequences were taken into account and for the benefit of the accused his clean and relatively good road record. The court rejected the request for a suspension of the sentence, stating that "the disastrous consequences caused are such that they cannot justify the suspension. Otherwise, the need for deterrence to all drivers who use the road on a daily basis would be neutralized." The case was handled by Giorgos Stavrou on behalf of the Prosecution.

The information of "F" from Greece about the cocaine import ring through Latin America with the alleged mastermind of the 42-year-old Cypriot citizen J. A., who is wanted.

The case is characterized as unprecedented, since the members of the criminal group imported large quantities of the narcotic substance into Greece in liquid form, with which clothes were impregnated in order not to perceive this criminal activity.

The 42-year-old Cypriot wanted man, according to our authoritative source from the Greek capital, is characterized by the Greek Police "as directing and directing the criminal organization, in charge of finding cocaine suppliers from Ecuador, organizing the importation of cocaine into Greece from Ecuador and the trafficking of drugs in the domestic market".

As for the 50-year-old arrested by the Greek Police, P. K., also a Greek Cypriot, based on the preliminary investigation work carried out, the Greek prosecuting authorities consider him as the main accomplice of the 42-year-old "in the transport of the quantities of cocaine to be imported into Greece, as well as the further trafficking of the drugs in the domestic market".                                                                                                                                                                                                                             The 50-year-old P.K. was arrested by members of the DIAS team on Monday (shortly after midnight) outside the apartment where he lived in Menidi, having in his possession a black plastic suitcase.   After police searched the suitcase, it was found that it contained 13 pieces of clothing soaked in cocaine with a total gross weight of about 17 kilograms. The Greek Police believe that the purpose was the chemical processing of the clothing for the export of cocaine.

The 50-year-old was found in possession of "RETAY" pistol with a magazine and five full cartridges, as well as a sum of money.

After a search warrant was executed in the apartment where he lived with two of the arrested, important findings emerged that demonstrate that the defendants had installed a chemical laboratory suitable for the refining, separation and extraction of the liquid cocaine with which the clothes had been impregnated.

For the case, the Police have arrested the 50-year-old Cypriot, a 48-year-old Greek woman, as well as two other persons from Colombia and the Dominican Republic, respectively. The latter two are alleged to be the people in charge of the chemical processing of cocaine. As we noted, the alleged mastermind of the ring, the 42-year-old English-born Cypriot citizen is wanted.

Both Greek Cypriots are known to the Cyprus Police. The 42-year-old has been employed during the investigation of relevant offenses, while the name of the 50-year-old has been employed for cases in free Famagusta. However, a competent source from Cyprus assured us that until yesterday afternoon there was no request for assistance from the Cyprus Police.     The case began to be investigated by the Greek Police after reports of an injured person on a street outside the apartment where the members of the ring were located.   Finally, after the police investigation, it emerged that the two above-mentioned people, who come from Latin America, had jumped from the balcony of the apartment in Menidi. Both were injured and had been taken to a hospital for treatment.
