The Police  arrested a second person, aged 16, in the context of an investigation into a case of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, and causing malicious damage to a patrol vehicle, offences committed on April 17, 2025, in Limassol.

The 16-year-old was arrested by members of the Police in Limassol, shortly before 5.00 p.m. yesterday, pursuant to a court warrant, which was issued on the basis of evidence that emerged during the investigation of the case. He was detained for the purpose of police examinations.

The arrest of the 16-year-old was preceded yesterday at noon by the arrest of another 16-year-old, also under a court warrant, in relation to the same case.

According to the data under investigation, late in the afternoon of Holy Thursday, April 17, the Police received information about a gathering of about 20 people, who had their faces covered with hoods and allegedly had lit a fire, in an area of Limassol.

Members of the Police went to the area for examinations, where during the patrol, a number of people threw stones at the patrol vehicle, resulting in damage to it.

A fire in garbage baskets, within the river in Germasogeia, in the area of Christou Kranou Street, was set on fire yesterday at 21:20 in the evening.

Members of the Police rushed to the area, while members of the Fire Service extinguished the fire. Upon their arrival, the members of the Police were attacked by a group of young people, who threw stones and eggs. A police officer was hit by the throwing of the objects, but he was not injured, while minor damage was caused to a patrol vehicle.

The members of the Police stopped one of the young men, aged 14, while evidence emerged against a second young man, also 14 years old. The two 14-year-olds were arrested under court warrants and detained.

The Limassol Police Department is investigating the case of rioting, assault against a police officer, causing malicious damage to property, lighting a fire, and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor.

The Police are looking for a gang of burglars for cases that occurred in apartments in Limassol.

According to a relevant announcement, the authorities are conducting investigations into the recent burglaries in apartments, which were recently committed in the city of Limassol.

After the examinations, evidence emerged of a ring of foreigners, for whom their photos were made public.

An arrest warrant was obtained for one person and is being sought.

A total of 20 cases of illegal employment of foreigners, employing a total of 34 foreigners, were identified during a weekly campaign of the Aliens and Immigration Service, which took place between 25/04/2025–02/05/2025 to combat illegal work of foreigners in the Districts of Larnaca and Famagusta.

For these cases, 24 employers were charged in writing to be brought before the Court, while at the same time they were imposed an administrative fine, totalling €156,000.

The illegal employment of foreigners is one of the most important factors that attract immigrants to travel to Cyprus illegally. Among the actions of the Police to reduce the arrivals of irregular migrants and to manage the migration problem, there is also the fight against illegal employment of migrants.

For cases of illegal employment of foreigners, the relevant legislation provides for a prison sentence of up to 5 years, or a fine of €20,000, or both. In addition to the above penalties, an administrative fine may be imposed on the employer by the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labour for any person who is illegally employed.

It is noted that for the years 2024 and 2025 (until May 1), the Aliens and Immigration Service identified a total of 512 cases of illegal employment of foreigners, within the framework of which 499 employers were brought before a court while at the same time 799 foreigners were arrested.

It is emphasized that in addition to the above, the Police will continue the campaigns and the conduct of checks in hotel units, buildings and restaurants to combat illegal employment.

A vehicle was completely destroyed in the Larnaca area at around 3am on Saturday by a fire that appears to have been started maliciously.

“From the initial examinations carried out by members of the police, evidence emerged that this was arson,” police said in a statement, adding that the scene remained under guard for further examination.

The fire had broken out in the car of a 43-year-old man, parked in the parking lot of an apartment building. By the time firefighters arrived to extinguish the flames, the vehicle was already completely destroyed.

Investigations into the case continue.

A 21-year-old was allegedly robbed of his phone and wallet by motorcyclists in Larnaca in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to police, the young man was walking in the area at 4:30am when several people on two motorcycles attacked him and stole his valuables.

The case is under investigation by Larnaca police.
