The Paphos District Court yesterday issued 3-day detention orders against three persons aged 30, 39 and 41, who were arrested for cases of burglary and theft. They also face charges of illegal possession of property and theft.
According to the Assistant Police Director of Operations of Paphos, Michalis Nicolaou, a 46-year-old woman reported that on May 22 her residence was burglarized and items worth a total of about €4,500 were stolen, including her mobile phone.
On May 24, the complainant spotted a GPS signal from her mobile phone in a specific apartment in Paphos. Members of the Police conducted a search of the apartment, where two of the three suspects, aged 30 and 41, were identified.
During the investigation, electronic devices, bicycles, watches and other bags were found, for which the suspects did not give satisfactory explanations. They were arrested for the flagrant offense of illegal possession of property.
Subsequently, the 39-year-old, who lives with the other two suspects, was also arrested, based on a court warrant. According to the Police, part of the stolen items were identified by owners of houses that had been burglarized in Paphos on May 12 and 16.

As part of a coordinated operation, members of the Limassol Police Department proceeded yesterday with a search of premises, vehicles and a boat in Limassol.
During the investigations, a quantity of cannabis with a total gross weight of 540 grams, a scale, four crushers, 31 full cartridges of caliber 7.65mm and 9mm, and the total amount of €120,105 were found and confiscated.
For the above findings, five persons were arrested, two of whom, after being interrogated, were charged in writing and then released, to be summoned later before a court.
In relation to the other three persons, they are expected to appear within the day, before the Limassol District Court, for the issuance of a decree for their detention. Finally, it should be noted that for the same case, a sixth person is also wanted.

A total of 50 foreigners residing illegally in Cyprus were identified and arrested today, as part of a pan-Cypriot coordinated operation by the Aliens and Migration Service (UNHCR).
Twentythree of those arrested are expected to depart from Cyprus today, with flights to their countries of origin, while for the rest the procedures for their repatriation have also begun.
Members of UNHCR and the Sub-Directorate for Green Line Surveillance and Response to Migration Flows participated in today's operation.
The efforts of the Police to locate and repatriate persons who are illegally residing on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus continue on a daily basis. Since the beginning of this year, until today, a total of 5,110 persons who were illegally residing in Cyprus have been repatriated. The number of repatriated foreigners during the corresponding period last year was 4,430.

A new fatal accident involving the 21-year-old food delivery man ABU ZAR from Pakistan took place last night in Limassol.
The collision happened around 21:25, when a car driven by a 55-year-old man, on Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue in Limassol, at some point on the road, under circumstances that are being investigated, collided with the victim's motorcycle.
The 21-year-old was seriously injured and was transferred to the Limassol General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after midnight.
The 55-year-old driver underwent a preliminary alcohol and drug test, with zero and negative readings respectively. He was then arrested on a warrant and detained to facilitate investigations.
The circumstances under which the tragedy occurred are being investigated, while the scene of the accident remains under guard for on-site examinations at the first light of day by the experts of the Limassol Traffic Police.
In statements from the scene of the accident, the head of the Limassol Traffic Police, Marios Charalambous, said:
"Unfortunately, tonight we had another fatal accident involving a food delivery driver. Specifically, a 55-year-old Greek Cypriot was driving his private vehicle on Makedonias Avenue, in Mesa Geitonia, heading east. At some point on the road, under conditions that are being investigated, he attempted to turn left towards a road leading to Grigoris Afxentiou Street and dragged the delivery man, who was in the same direction."
It appears that the distributor was hit on the left side of the vehicle, at the moment when the driver was trying to turn. Authorities are in the early stages of the investigation, while the scene has been put under guard for further examinations in the morning.
Responding to a question about whether the delivery man was wearing a protective helmet, Mr. Charalambous said that a helmet was found at the scene, but it is being examined whether he was wearing it at the time of the accident.

Attempted destruction of property with explosives in Limassol, investigation by the Police.
According to a relevant announcement, an explosion occurred around 3:00 a.m. in an electrician's garage, which belongs to a 43-year-old man of Syrian origin.
The explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (low power), which was placed in front of the entrance.
Damage was caused to the metal door and to a parked vehicle.
The scene was cordoned off and the tests will continue today with the first light of day.

The Police made a new arrest for the attack that took place at Omonia's house in Lakatamia.
According to a relevant announcement by the Police, last night another person was arrested.
It is an 18-year-old, who at 10:00 a.m. today, will be brought before the Nicosia District Court, for the issuance of a detention order.

A tragedy occurred on Sunday afternoon in a hotel in Kato Paphos, when a 60-year-old British tourist was pulled - under unspecified circumstances - unconscious from the pool, where he was swimming.
According to the first information, the unfortunate man was spotted by other bathers, who tried to offer him help before an ambulance was called.
The 60-year-old was taken to the Paphos General Hospital, where the doctors on duty confirmed his death.
The exact causes of his death are expected to be determined by performing an autopsy on the body, which is scheduled for today.
The authorities are investigating the incident.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday by members of the Nicosia Anti-Drug Service (YKAN), as she attempted to enter the Central Prison in possession of narcotic substances.
According to the Police, the arrest was made in the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Police and the Central Prison Department. During a search at the entrance of the prison, where the 29-year-old had gone for a visit, small quantities of cocaine and a crystal substance similar to methamphetamine were found in her possession, both of a gross weight of about one gram.
In addition, a glass tobacco syringe and a number of papers soaked in drugs were seized.

The two 38-year-olds, who were arrested before the start of the cup final last Saturday outside the GSP stadium, pleaded guilty to possession of flares and fireworks.
Today they appeared at the Nicosia District Court and pleaded guilty to the charges. The Court set a personal bail of €5,000 for each of them and issued a decree excluding them from the stadiums until June 26, 2025, when they will be sentenced.
As for the two minors who had also been arrested outside the GSP during the Police checks, for illegal possession of fireworks and flares, they had been released and the file has been forwarded to the Legal Service for study and instructions on whether they will be prosecuted or placed under a dejudicial program, on the basis of the legislation.
Also, the 16-year-old who was arrested yesterday Sunday in connection with the incidents in Lakatamia, was brought today before a Court in Nicosia and a four-day detention order was issued against him.
