The Police operations continued yesterday to prevent juvenile delinquency and attacks against distributors in Limassol.

Seven patrols from various departments of the Limassol Police Directorate participated in the operation, which carried out targeted patrols and checks in various areas of the city and district of Limassol. A total of 26 vehicles and 44 persons were checked, while two persons were arrested for theft of a motorcycle and illegal possession of offensive instruments.

Specifically, around 10 p.m., members of the Police, who were on a street in Limassol, saw two persons, wearing hoods, parking a motorcycle – without registration numbers – in which they were riding, on the side of the road.

The police officers approached the two strangers, but as soon as they realized them, they fled running and abandoning the motorcycle at the scene.

From the examinations that followed, it was found that the motorcycle had been reported to the Police as stolen on May 10, 2025.

A few minutes later, while the police officers were arranging the transfer of the motorcycle to the Limassol Police Department, they saw two persons, who were wearing identical clothing to the above, trying to approach the motorcycle. The police followed them and immobilized one of them.

As it was established, it is a 14-year-old. A bag was found in his possession, inside which was a hood, similar to the one carried by the passenger of the motorcycle.

The 14-year-old was taken to a Police Station, where his parents, a guardian of minors and a lawyer were summoned. A court arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested and detained, in order to facilitate the investigations. The Agios Ioannis Police Station is investigating the case.

A short time, around 10.40 p.m. yesterday, members of the Police, who were on patrol in a village in the Limassol district, spotted a car moving in the opposite lane. The police officers called the driver to stop for a check, but he developed speed and fled.

The members of the Police followed the car and stopped it on the Paphos-Limassol highway, near Ypsonas. During the journey, the driver committed a number of traffic violations.

From an inspection carried out after the vehicle was stopped, it was found that the driver of the vehicle was 19 years old. Two clubs and a hood were found inside the vehicle, which were confiscated as evidence.

The 19-year-old was arrested for a flagrant offense and was detained to facilitate the investigations. The Episkopi Police Station is investigating the case.

In addition to the above arrests, alcohol tests were carried out on 42 drivers during yesterday's operation, from which four complaints emerged. The members of the Police also proceeded to ten other complaints of drivers for various traffic offences.

A new postponement of the trial of father and mother, before the Permanent Assize Court of Larnaca, for the horrific case of abuse of five children. The two defendants appeared in the morning for the second time before the Permanent Assize Court of Larnaca, in order to answer whether or not they admit guilt to the very serious charges they face. In a procedure that was conducted behind closed doors, their new defense lawyer asked for time to be informed about the case. For this reason, the case has been set for June 5, the date on which the defendants will be asked to answer whether or not they plead guilty to the charges they face, which relate to child trafficking, exploitation of minors and adults in the workplace, sexual abuse and domestic violence. Until then, the 48-year-old and his wife will remain in custody.

The two defendants were arrested around mid-March. The case began to unfold when one child confided to his school what he had been experiencing with his siblings in recent years. Subsequently, a complaint was made to the special unit for violence against the family of the Larnaca TAE, members of which, after receiving videotaped testimonies from the children, put handcuffs on the two.

Among the allegations is that the 48-year-old forced four of the five children to work in fields and livestock farms for years, while some of them claimed that he repeatedly used violence against them. There are also allegations of abuse against the mother, who allegedly also beat the children. It is noted that one child also reported sexual exploitation by the 48-year-old. As it turned out, the family was living under miserable conditions in shacks, among the livestock estates, which became a fire rage a few days after the case was revealed.

It is recalled that the case had caused a stir and a storm of reactions, since the family was monitored for years by the Social Welfare Services, which did not realize what the children were experiencing. For this reason, an administrative investigation was ordered by the Deputy Minister of Welfare, which, as reported to filenews, is in the final stage, while an ex officio investigation is also being conducted by the Commissioner for the Protection of Children's Rights.
