Filenews

Today before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni, the unprecedented case of killing and dismembering a kangaroo in a parking lot of an apartment building in Deryneia will be registered. In addition to the 36-year-old from Cameroon, who is in custody, the indictment of the case includes two other persons related to the farm in Paralimni from which the animal was taken alive, as it was found. They are the owner's wife, as well as his employee, who are facing charges related to animal welfare legislation.

The case was clarified after an autopsy showed that the animal's death was caused by a slaughter. This refuted the 36-year-old's claim that the animal died after a fight with another kangaroo. It is noted that for the case, they continue to search for another foreigner, who was with the 36-year-old in the parking lot of the apartment building, as well as the driver of a double cab, who allegedly helped them to transport him from a farm in Paralimni.

It is recalled that the unprecedented case was revealed when the police received a complaint on the afternoon of May 6 that two foreigners were chopping up an animal in the parking lot of an apartment building. Plastic bags containing a sliced kangaroo, an axe and five knives were found at the site. The 36-year-old was arrested on the spot, while the other foreigner managed to escape. When the suspect was transferred to the Deryneia Police Station, it was found that he had been illegally residing in Cyprus since 2022. The 36-year-old faces offenses related to subjecting an animal to pain, suffering, injury or fear, causing an animal an horrific death, possession of an animal that is not allowed and illegal stay on the territory of the Republic.

Rapid developments are taking place around the case of assault and insult of a 17-year-old, the day before yesterday at midnight, in an area of Nicosia. In connection with the case, two persons, aged 17 and 18, were arrested on the basis of court arrest warrants, who, after being accused in writing, were released.

The Police are investigating a case involving serious offences, including conspiracy to commit a felony, offences in violation of the Law on Combating Certain Forms and Manifestations of Racism and Xenophobia, assault causing actual bodily harm, insult and other related offences.

The Police clarified, according to a statement by a spokesperson to "F", that they are not investigating a homophobic incident but a case of assault and insult. This clarification is made because it had been transmitted (on the basis of information from police sources) that it was such an incident, however, from the testimonies and evidence there is no such thing.

The Police estimate that this is an incident related to the youth's behaviour and not to other motives, as reported in the morning. In fact, after the relevant information from a police source, which saw the light of day, a strict announcement by the organization Accept Cyprus followed.

The incident happened around midnight, while the 17-year-old was walking on a street in the Nicosia district. He was approached by two people who, after insulting him, beat him in various parts of his body. The 17-year-old visited the Nicosia General Hospital, where he was found to have swelling on his face and redness in his nose.

It is expected that other persons who may know anything relevant will be called to give testimony.
