The second minor who was arrested as a suspect for the attack on a 15-year-old, which was brought to light yesterday, ended up in the cell for one day. The incident took place last week in a park in Pano Polemidia, when the minor was attacked by his peers because he had sat in the park in their area.

The 16-year-old suspect was brought on Wednesday morning (30/4) before the Limassol District Court, which initiated a closed-door procedure and ordered his detention for a period of one day. According to information on our website, the minor, during his interrogation, in the presence of his lawyer and relative, exercised the right of silence and did not answer any of the questions of the police officers.

As reported in yesterday's report by Filenews, the incident took place on April 24, at noon, in a park in Pano Polemidia. The 15-year-old minor, who was in the park waiting for the nearby gym to open, was approached by an unknown person with a covered face. The perpetrator approached him and, in a threatening mood, pressured him to tell him where he came from and why he was in this particular park.

The minor, who – it is worth noting – is on the autism spectrum, did not answer, resulting in five people surrounding him, four of whom had their faces covered.

According to the complaint, the perpetrators began to threaten him, trying to grab his bagThey threw a chair at him, causing him to fall to the ground, and began kicking him in the body, causing injuries. The attack stopped when a citizen intervened who noticed the incident, resulting in the juvenile perpetrators fleeing.

The complainant was taken to the hospital, where it was found that he had abrasions and bruises on his chest. As he testified to the Police, he recognized one of the perpetrators – who did not have his face covered – stating that they attended the same school.

For the case, the Police proceeded to the arrest of two 16-year-old students, who were detained. Offenses related to conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor and assault causing actual bodily harm are being investigated against them. In relation to the 13-year-old allegedly involved in the attack, the Police will follow the procedure provided by the legislation for minors under 14 years of age.
