Unsafe levels of intestinal enterococci bacteria have been detected in seawater along beaches from RAF Akrotiri to Lady’s Mile, according to an urgent notice issued Saturday by the British bases.
It is strongly advised not to swim at all beaches stretching from The Snug beach at RAF Akrotiri to Oasis Restaurant on Lady’s Mile, as these areas do not meet required safety standards for sea bathing.
Officials from both the British Bases and the Republic of Cyprus are working together to identify the contamination source, minimise its impact and protect the waters. Further test results are expected early next week.
The public is urged to adhere to safety advice and avoid swimming in the affected areas until further notice.
