The two refreshment kiosks that were found to have been illegally installed in Akamas were the focus of yesterday's tour of the peninsula of the Director of the Environment Service, the Commissioner for the Environment, the President of the EDA Paphos and the Mayor of Akamas. During the on-site examinations and contacts, actions were agreed that will remove the illegalities in the immediate future.
As Theodoulos Mesimeris, Antonia Theodosiou, Charalambos Pittokopitis and Marinos Lambrou found, one of these two premises that operated illegally at the entrance of the national park, has already been moved. However, there are still table chairs on site, for which the state bodies have given clear instructions to be removed immediately by crews of the Paphos District Administration.
As for the second refreshment shop, near the gorge of Avakas, it was found that it was essentially a makeshift construction that a farmer who leases church land placed so that he could sell the fruits he grows.
The Environmental Service, the Commissioner for the Environment, the EDA and the Municipality of Akamas, through their representatives, agreed that especially for the sale of the fruits produced there, the operation of the facility can continue, without however erecting other facilities or there being any other commercial use of the area.
