SNOWDEN PAPERS - AMERICAN SPIES DRESSED AS TOURISTS IN CYPRUS

Filenews 1 April 2025 - by Fanis Makrides

The official form of the information that Cyprus and especially the British bases are the headquarters of intelligence/espionage services, is attempted to be given by a well-known British journalist who deals with research and security issues.

Matt Kennard, who has worked for well-known English-language media, raises once again the issue of the presence of British and American agents who appear to be acting arbitrarily on our island.

This time, however, what he says is based on classified documents that Edward Snowden, a former agent of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), revealed.

As is well known, Snowden, who was a cybersecurity adviser to the CIA and NSA until the beginning of the last decade, made serious revelations in 2013 that had caused a worldwide sensation and he was wanted by the American authorities with an international arrest warrant.

Kennard, citing documents leaked by Snowden, presents Cyprus as the British and American base for operations in the Middle East. He analyzes how they act to avoid being noticed and posits that they played a role in the events in Gaza ("for the supply and support of the genocide").

The London-born journalist in a post on the social media platform "X" last Friday notes the following: "You should never have seen this. A top-secret document from Britain's largest intelligence agency (GCHQ), which was leaked by Edward Snowden.

It exposes the industrial-level espionage carried out by the US and the UK from the British territory of Cyprus, which has become the main international centre for facilitating Israel's genocide in Gaza.

He notes that American spies characterize their bases in British Cyprus – there are at least four – as "important assets that contribute decisively".

It also mentions that the U.S. intelligence agency NSA finances 50% of SOUNDER's operating expenses (this is the St. Nicholas spy station at the Eastern Sovereign British Base – ed. Dhekelia base).

Cyprus is not informed about the presence of the American intelligence service, as this constitutes a violation of the 1960 Treaty of Establishment. Another Snowden document notes that American spies dress up as tourists when they go to British bases for work.

We know that the UK and US armies have used RAF Cape to supply and support the genocide in Gaza.

We don't know anything about how they have mobilized their spy capabilities on the island to support the massacre.

This is an issue for the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ)."

In June 2013, Snowden leaked top-secret documents to journalists from The Guardian and The Washington Post. At the center of his revelations was PRISM, an NSA surveillance program that allegedly collected data from companies such as Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft without users' knowledge. According to what was aired at the time, the British GCHQ worked closely with the NSA in data collection. After the revelations, Snowden fled to Russia and received Russian citizenship in 2022.
